Unmoderated posting, unfortunately, isn't an option. Although most posters are responsible, there are usually one or two who aren't. I'd rather sacrifice immediacy rather than have a post that's out of bounds on the board for any period of time.

The other issue is forums are sometimes attacked by spambots that post automatically on open forums. It's been calm lately but last year Voy.com had system-wide problems with that. There were days when there would be as many as 10 to 20 spam posts. With moderated postings, nobody else ever sees those.

The alternative would be to go to a registration system, where only those who have registered and use a password can post. I don't like that because it excludes people who may not want to bother with registration but would still like to make a comment or ask a question.
