I think Yates 'old man' was Mr. Perrywinkle or something like that.

Didn't Hank Stoll (sic0 and Knish have a show or hosted a school..Kinish was a puppet made with a wooden darning egg for a nose and a string mop for hair.
WQED did a number of live production shows over the years.
