Let me make a tangential point before the holiday season ends. Back in the day before stations went all-Christmas in mid-November, stations would systematically mix in holiday songs after Thanksgiving. It was no more than one per hour and sometimes one every two hours in the early going.

But PDs actually paid attention to the content and tone of the songs chosen. They would start with the novelty stuff (Chipmunks, Dogs, Snoopy) and save the religious-themed material for the weeks closer to Christmas. It made sense. "Jingle Bell Rock" and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" in early December, "Silent Night" and "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" after about the 15th. Now they just open the file and play anything and everything.

There was one recent year when 3WS made the transition to all-Christmas and I heard "O Holy Night" in the first hour.
