What I remember of KQV was that it played Christmas pop songs ("Jingle Bell Rock," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," cuts from the Phil Spector album) at a rate of about one or two per hour. Christmas Eve they dropped the format after the news block and aired things like "A Christmas Carol" and church services. Christmas day was traditional Christmas music, probably on tape and just segued to give the jocks the day off. Then it was back to the format.

This all-Christmas programming for a month or more is a relatively recent development. Now that owners have multiple stations in a cluster, they can draw the people who want Christmas music on demand and let anyone who doesn't migrate to one of the sister stations.
