Bengal - I replied in another thread that 247 lists Wyatt Becker as a 2025 commit, ON3 does as well. Where have you seen him listed as a 2026 recruit?

Those sites also mention offers from Oregon, Georgia, TAMU, Cal, Miami, Penn State and other big-time programs that we rarely see for Ivy recruits.

Are you telling me that the boys in New Jersey have recruited a quarterback prospect away from Oregon, Georgia, Miami, Penn State and Utah?

What??

Wouldn't that make him the highest rated Ivy quarterback recruit since the kid who turned down Alabama, but then couldn't crack the Princeton starting line-up? I believe that Brevin White got a late offer from Nick Saban, which to me sounds like a "class fill-in" offer. That carries less weight than getting early offers from Kirby Smart, James Franklin and Kyle Whittingham. The latter are *real* offers.

If this guy actually shows up on campus and puts on an orange helmet, then congratulations to Coach Surace and his recruiting staff.

Wow.

AO - Wyatt Becker originally committed to Utah, enrolled early, played spring ball, and then entered the transfer portal in April prior to committing to Princeton in May. So strictly speaking, Coach Whittingham gets the credit for landing this recruit when he had a boatload of blue-chip offers.

I have seen no info on the circumstances surrounding his departure from Utah (buried on the depth chart? bad experience in Econ 101?) or whether any other schools were involved when he reopened his recruitment .

T81,

Thank you for the color, which I find absolutely fascinating. I picture top-rated, high academic football recruits as facing a decision tree that appears this way:

FIRST, you decide whether to go for the highest level football which will have you.

Once you decide to go big time, THEN you can consider the program, the head coach, the offensive coordinator and the NIL money.

Only AFTER you decide to forego high level FBS football, would I expect you to start evaluating academically elite universities such as the Ivies.

If this view of the recruit's decision tree is accurate, I would expect a top level quarterback who was not immediately happy during his pre-freshman year spring football practice to only go back one branch in the decision tree.

That is, if you don't want to stay at Utah, you're going to step back to considering Oregon and Georgia.

Instead of this, young Mr Becker went back TWO branches in the decision tree and said to himself, "I don't like the Utah playbook. I wonder what Coach Surace is drawing up for his passing game. Lemme call Princeton."

I'm shocked that a kid would enroll at a proven, solid FBS program and then decide to go Ivy.

As I said before, if this guy actually shows up in August and straps on an orange helmet, what a coup for Coach Surace.

The only way that this would not be a happy outcome for Princeton and all Ivies is if some Tiger booster ponied up to write a big check to the player. I really really hope that the financial calculus was not involved.

Let's see what Surace posts on the freshman class, which I am guessing will probably not be before pre-season camp opens.

Isn’t a 30 ACT pretty low for Ivy League?

I don't know; I am from an SAT part of the country. What is the ACT max, 36? If so and if you can extrapolate to produce an analogous score on a 1600 point scale, the answer is probably no, not for athletic admissions. But as I say I don't really know.

If you look through the academic admissions credentials of freshman classes on Ivy teams across our varsity sports I think you will find a number with lower scores than that. Of course, football is banded; and didn't some schools stop using standardized tests for a while? In the case of the young man here, he is taking a PG year.
