Thanks, Son of Eli.

It makes no sense to not start earlier and build in an off week during the season.

Let's use the specific example of our 2025 Ivy football schedule that starts the season on Saturday, September 20th (two weeks after others in FCS). If we start the season with the first game on Saturday, September 13th, we could have the entire league take the weekend off on Saturday, October 18th. In turn, this would allow the coaches to give their players three full days off after their game on Saturday, October 11th game with the players returning to practice on Wednesday, October 15th. Note that this still would allow 10 full days to prepare their players for their next game schedule on Saturday, October 25th. This would be the equivalent of a mid-season reading period for Ivy football players and help offset any grumbling about extending the season for the FCS playoffs participation. As a former student athlete, I vividly remember using reading period to catch up on class materials I could not fully cover during the season.

Ivy Administrators would have a hard time voting against this change since it is far, far better for student athletes from an academic perspective. It outs the student first in being a student athlete.
