Seriously, are these writers smoking crack?! Do they even have a long-term storyline outline? Do they just change their minds depending on what the mailbags say? Or what the boards say? And some realism, please! I know we all enjoyed seeing RH's fabulous chest (unburnt), but good lord, the guy's already wearing regular clothes and traipsing around his house! I do remember when Barbara was burnt. It was a LOT more real!! I don't need instant gratification, as long as I get something in the end! Hell, I love Henry, and even his story is making me yawn. UGH. It's hard to root for anyone on this show right now. (Thank goodness I'm not a die-hard Carjack fan.) And yes, I noticed I didn't mention the loon....that's a whole nother rant for another night (after several glasses of wine) :-P -- TODD'S LAIR

I hear ya Miss becks, and very good points all. But you know what? I don't think we're ever going to get the old days of character driven writing. There are too many new viewers who don't have the patience for long story arcs. Too many new (and old viewers) who immediately dismiss a Story if it doesn't follow the script they have in their head. Too many viewers who have forgotten what Soap was really like in the old days ... and man it could STINK big time even back then ... and because of all the immediacy of communication nowadays ... they make their displeasure felt far more quickly ... to the detriment of long term story goals by the writers. I know I'm coming off as a half-assed apologist for the writers ... but GEEZ, I do feel for them. Think about what is going on backstage and Upstairs. The poor writers have to turn on a dime ... there can be no real long term planning like in the old days. AND it doesn't help that people seem to want Prime Time Production (that takes 8 or nine days for ONE episode) in a medium that is on 5 days a week ALL year long.
Your points are absolutely right on, Miss Becks ... but I don't see any real solution. I dropped all my other soaps ... and ATWT is my last one now. Of course RH being on doesn't hurt my appreciation of it ...... heeheehee! (NT) -- tat, 06:03:38 03/13/08 Thu
AND ... maybe that's my bottom line. RH makes all of it worthwhile for me. Whatever he is given, he makes it work for me. He's just that good. Hee! I like the rest of the Show ... it no more annoys me than other shows I have dropped (because they really did STINK beyond my ability to hold my nose) ... and I do get some real pleasure out of ATWT in the main run.
