Big agreed here too, Becky. Usually I'm all "Oh, Meg!" about some of her decisions ... but this time I can't fault her about looking out for the health of their baby. She's in such a high risk pregnancy ... the stress could be lethal. And I'm not going to point fingers or chicken or egg this. Paul obviously has Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome ... and regardless of Dusty REALLY being out to get him (yes, indeed!) ... and regardless of the events leading up to this, until Paul can think more clearly and not jump to immediate reactions ... the baby comes first, in my opinion. My heart has been breaking for Paul. Months and months of stress ending in a "nervous breakdown". Obviously he has PTS. Obviously, Oakdalians have the empathy of Tasmanian Devils and could care less. Well, let's look at James' definition ...

James: I cannot believe that I have a son that's such a coward. Stop whining, paul. Do something. Take some action. For once, act like a man.

Paul: So, if I show any kind of compassion or show any kind of remorse, then I'm a coward in your eyes?

You know, in the midst of my browser problems with Vista, I could only post on certain boards. I became involved in a lengthy discussion at one of these boards ... and one of my points was:

We all have a "Jungian Shadow Self" ... that Dark Part of ourself that only wants what Self wants. That atavistic, recidivistic return to the animal programming that most of us try to suppress. We try to suppress it because the suppression of it is what makes us Human Beings and NOT animals. Animals are primarily and genetically programmed to survive by pursuing their immediate wants ... food, propagation, territorial control at ANY cost. Even in set Social Structures animals are not idealistic ... there is no awareness of right or wrong in Nature. Animals are driven by genetic programming. And Self is supreme.

When we allow our "Shadow Self" to dominate over Rationality and Compassion, we are little more than animals.

James is an animal.

One of the many reasons I'm so fascinated with Paul is because of his constant struggle to suppress his "Dark Side". And what a struggle it has been. Wheh. Every time he finally manages to understand what he has allowed himself to surrender to and then struggles to move forward ... another set of circumstances tears his world asunder and he has to again struggle with what it is to be Human.

It is not that Paul has not learned from his mistakes ... it is that Paul has to constantly struggle with doing the right thing. Nothing really is really "easy" for him.

Because see ... 5,000 years of recorded History shows us that... Evil is "EASY". And Good? A constant struggle.

Paul as Protagonist is a classic anti-Hero. His tragic flaw is that it is sometimes "easy" for him to fall into Self. His hard won triumph? That he then TRIES to overcome it. Life is a perpetual process for him. As it is for ALL of us.

James: I cannot believe that I have a son that's such a coward. Stop whining, paul. Do something. Take some action. For once, act like a man.

Paul: So, if I show any kind of compassion or show any kind of remorse, then I'm a coward in your eyes?

James: The shoe fits.

Yes it does James. Because Paul is a man capable of wearing a shoe. Unlike you, James. Now go on ... trot your little cloven hoofs right out of Oakdale. The sooner the better.

James has more than wore out his "welcome" with me. Grin.

I love that the Show is starting to promote itself on the Web. These ads were on Soap Sites, TV Sites, Gossip Sites ... and anything peripheal to the Industry. I do believe that the Net is becoming a player in Media Delivery what with all the Streaming Venues ... so it makes sense to cross promote.

However, as I said below ...

"I am thrilled by those pictures. Wheh! Gorgeous. What I am not thrilled by is the inability of PGP/Telenext to run a reputable and professional site. They have allowed that photographers beautiful pictures to be sullied by juvenile agendas in their comments section. It is impossible to link without that trash being included. And why the "HONEYMOON PIX" identification? They look like publicity stills to me. Or did the webmaster WANT to invite negativity? Very UNprofessional. Sad."

I cannot bring myself to link to THAT. AND, PGP/Telenext has requested linking because of Copy Right. Why they chose to invoke this on these particular actors puzzles me.

... on the past few weeks.

I'm loving the Show. I'm just a Soap Whore I guess. GRIN!

Even with the uncomfortable circumstances (I am the mistress of understatement ... yes, I am. Grin!) surronding Paul and Meg's two weddings ... I'm happy that they ARE married. Paul fan that I am, I am thrilled that Paul has finally gotten his gal. He's been in love with Meg for years. It's been a long long road. I was furious that their wedding in the Fall of 2006 was derailed by Emily. And yeah ... finding out that Paul tried to smother Craig was a shock to Meg, but honey? Looking back, I WISH that Paul had not been interrupted. Especially by e m i l y ... who had none so clean hands herself in that whole mess. If she hadn't continually colluded with Craig to break Paul and Meg up ... Paul would never have been driven to that attempted homicide. It's all Emily's fault. Heh. Damn her. And ... Craig dead would have saved me a lot of the aggravation that followed. Sigh. But that's Soap. Hee!

And ... speaking of Soap. I think that the poisonings are a terrific mechanism. Is it realistic? Well, sorta. Our government has been developing and experimenting with population impact psychotropic warfare for decades. With all the advances in pharmacological specific targeting ... it is believable to ME that a drug could be devised to target the release of inhibitions. To release subconscious fears. And that is what seems to be happening with Allison, Chris, Emily (though she just seems to be her regular self to me ... grin!) and Meg.

The poisenings are also a terrific umbrella Story that ties a lot of people into the same Arc. It gives some of my very favorite characters a chance to shine, and my not so favorite characters another way to live down to my low expectations of them. Ha ha ha!

In any case ... even if (and that's a big if) there is no real proof that such a drug could exist in Real Life ... so what? Soap is NOT Real Life. Soap Opera takes place in an Alternate Universe that is similar to our Reality, but does NOT follow a lot of our Real conventions. People whine about Medical and Legal divergences, but c'mon! Soap is where people come back from the dead, have face transplants, quickly recover from catastophic injuries ... have very rare psychiatric disorders. Not to mention ... time travelling, trips to Heaven, lost cities, alien encounters, Satanic posessions and on and on. As the World Turns has dipped into that, too. It is NOT a reality based Soap as some allege. Nor should it be.

Soap is an Art Form that has it's own specific "rules". It is stylized in it's own specific way. It, like other stylized Art Forms, requires "Suspension of Disbelief". Because ..... Soap is NOT about realism. It is about EMOTION.

People talk about the Death of Soap. Soap is still Soap. It is the audience, not the Art Form that has changed. And ... if Soap ever does die, it will be a terrible loss to Story Telling. Which for thousands of years has NOT been "reality based."

Soap is about Emotion. And with this present Story Arc, we have been treated to an emotional rollercoaster ride that still has not reached that last peak. Yay!

This Arc just has everything. I could not be happier.
