Subject: I am so tired of people wanting a soap to show people working ... you're kidding, right? I'll videotape myself for y'all....that's about how boring it would be if we saw it on a soap. And as for people in and out of jail, in and out of comas, etc.....you have to totally suspend reality in your mind to watch a soap...stop making it real life like trying to prove how the law really wouldn't allow that and doctors should have done this or that....it's a SOAP! it's fiction! In conclusion (LOL), I do think that soaps have tried to keep up, but I do think it's the audience that's changed, and our culture has become more and more "open" about what's allowed on TV (remember when Mick Jagger had to say "let's spend some TIME together" on Ed Sullivan)? There's only so much more soaps can do to keep it edgy!
In reply to: MissBecks 's message, "I think overall the in order for something to hold an audience's attention, it has to be outrageous. And I remember being a little girl and watching "stories" with my grandmothers. The Who's the Daddy, amnesia, cheating/lying/manipulating stuff was unheard of on TV back in the 70's (and somewhat 80's). But now, the crap that's on TV (i.e. reality shows) are filled with all of that stuff, so there's no more "edge" to soaps...more..." on 08:35:46 10/03/07 Wed
