Let's talk about babies ...

Especially since Meg is "late". Which way is the Show going to "show" a pregnancy?

So far, Gwen and Will are going the egg donor route because Gwen is having problems carrying to term. I know ... I'm confused, too. But that's not the point of all this in my opinion. No ... the Show is visiting "Karma" on Gwen for her last pregnancy. Gwen smoked, drank, didn't do pre-natal checkups or vitamins ... and her baby died. Now an argument could be made that Craig switching the babies led to this death because Gwen's baby didn't receive proper support care ... but. The Show never made any determination on that. Instead, we had scene after scene prior to the birth pointing out how Gwen was damaging her unborn baby. Now, she can't carry a baby to term. Is there a connection?

Maybe ... but then again, maybe the Show just hates Gwen, and isn't particularly making any point at all. Show.

Because ... let's take a look at Emily's pregnancy. At the most vulnerable period of her baby's development, Emily offered up that baby as a lab rat in an off the wall first time ever experiment to get out of jail ... uh, save Johnny's life. She then went on to ignore her doctor's orders during several dangerous developmental incidents that could have comprimised the pregnacy. Then, instead of staying in bed to ensure the best possible outcome for her pregnancy ... Emily ran all over Oakdale preparing to kidnap Tom and Paul's children. But, loophole! Emily purposely putting her baby's development at risk for her own life and purposes is then ignored in the Barn Birth. Obviously, the baby wasn't dying in the womb that afternoon. Running around hysterically in high heels had nothing to do with it.The baby was born dead, but none of it was Emily's fault.

The Show just loved Emily. Off the hook again. It was everybody else's fault again, not hers. A point was made. Show.

Now ... I can almost excuse Gwen for damaging her baby. She was young and stupid and alone with a first pregnancy. Regardless of all the information out there about what NOT to do when you're pregnant, Gwen was being shown as a product of her sub-culture. She started out as a cautionary tale ... and ended up as "Love conquers All". Until now.

Emily has no excuse. She's a middle-aged woman with previous pregnancies and was warned by her doctors every step of the way. No cautionary tale ... no point except that she again was able to shift blame off of herself onto other people. Even now.

Two dead babies ... two irresponsible mothers. Karma? No. Gwen is now probably paying the price of her neglect of her pregnancy ... and Emily has once again walked away without any consequences.

Oh ...and I'm not forgetting Sophie. An Unwed pregnant newbie in a specific Story Arc. Hmmmmmmmm. Show.

Yeah, yeah ... it's all just Soap ... but I wonder what the Show is really telling us about how to view women being pregnant. Show.

Because then there is Meg.

Going by the General Soap Boards, a segment of women, and some men ... both gay and straight ... think Meg is an insane diseased whore who deserves to die. So does any possible pregnancy ... because these posters think that the so-called "sins" of the mother should preclude a child. A child that they think can not be conceived in any case because of an ambiguous point of Show History that they have latched on to for dear life. Or dear death. The "Morality" Police have spoken. Gotta love the boards.

But Board agendas aside ... what Story will the Show ... show? Things are looking to get very complicated ... very shortly.

What point will the Show again make about pregnancy?

I personally, am thrilled at the possibilty that Paul might have a chance to be a father again. I think he "paid" for his wrong doing in the baby switch ... as much as any of the other characters have "paid" for their wrong doings on the Show in any case. No "sins" of the father needs to be revisited here, in my opinion. Grin.

I'm rooting for Meg to be pregnant with Paul's child. And, unlike Gwen and Emily ... a pregnancy free of foetal abuse and neglect.

It's Soap. Anything can happen. And sometimes that can be happy and good.

My point.

Will it be the Show's? Crossed fingers.
