Jay,

Thanks. I have sort of laid low about the new boat on this forum as she is a bit outside of the typical Oar Club type of boat. And she was definitely not cheap and I didn't self sufficiently convert her myself. But I have looked for a new boat for years trying to get back that lost sail area you spoke about but they just don't exist these days. So I decided to have an old race boat modified to get it.

Time will tell how well she is suited to the San Juans but I trust your word on it. I will say this, one hint of sluggish light air performance and I am going to add masthead 170% drifter or asym to her fractional rig. I hate rowing.

I think you really hit the nail on the head when you spoke about modern boats being under canvassed. I just don't understand it. My new boat has the same amount of sail as a stock Triton minus 3000 lbs of displacement. The Triton would be a screamer with another 10 feet of spar. She would look great as well.

I was actually surprised that the Furled Sail folks gave you so much latitude. When I listen to their talk with the Pardey's they seemed to want to talk more. It was almost like they were afraid to comment because they have a different view of themselves than you might have. Funny when they talked with Lynn and Larry it was like they were two peas in a pod with everything in common. I think many people are buying into their fantasy of sailing the big ketch in and out of the pristine bay. Perhaps their needs to be a motor sailer anonymous.

Hi, My name is Fred and I am a Motor Sailer... Hi Fred

With respect to Seasteading comercial viability, I think engineless is the seed. A bunch of engineless sailors could become Seasteader's overnight when / if "our" Government inflates the currency to pay off its debts. But you are right, it is a hard pitch to sell with needing courage an all.

Bill
