If it doesn't have an engine, it's an Oar Club boat! I'm sure that while people come from all backgrounds and means, but I'm sure their is mutual respect for any that actually do something, and obviously you've made quite the commitment to what you've chosen to do, which, frankly, is something few people do.

I don't think I gave the furledsails people much of a chance, but rather in my typical FitzGeraldesque manner more or less firehosed 'em good, because I wanted to make sure I got a message across, and one that I didn't want edited out. They cut plenty of more, ahem, inflammatory comments, for sure! But that's cool. . .

Get ready for the hate mail! I love the profile of the very manly ocean navigator, battling with the elements, whose skin is as thin as a junior high girl, and is every bit as quick to get those proverbial panties twisted up. . .

I've always felt more than justified in taking a very robust advocacy for engine less sailing--because there is no amount of confrontational language that can I can produce, that could possibly compete with the massive pile of crap, and very snarky and demeaning crap, the yacht world in general wants to feed you. About the proper this or that, blah blah, a bunch of self-grandizing horseshit when it isn't straight up profiteering. And it's stupid even from that point of view, because the industry at large has made sailing such a complicated, expensive, elitist thing that they've eliminated their customers. And that's foolish indeed. There are many people who would enjoy hearing the straight up story, and when you're only one voice in a crowd, sometimes you need to yell a bit to get heard.
