There are definately a lot of banks in pretty poor financial condition but not all of them. My local bank is managed very conservatively. Over the last four or five years it was rated poorly by Wallstreet because its profitability was below average for all banks. But now many of the high fliers that took big risks for big returns are in danger of going out of business. My local bank will lose money this year but its viability is not threatened. Unless, that is, the whole world goes to hell and while that is possible, is not probable.
