Woods and Water, That's the north west section of florida and Private land at that, yes some of it is Public but again in the northern most part of the State! No a Spike won't be a ten point dead or even possibly alive, I've seen 5 year old 4 pointers, do we stop shooting them too? You can go to Georgia an shoot a buck, send a picture to W&W and tell them it was shoot in southern Florida, who's going to question it... My point here is W&W doesn't have any science to prove or disprove where that deer was taken!

We have got to come up with ways to enhance the population of deer in the State, the whole state.. then work on buck to doe ratios, but the first thing we need is a good count of what the population in florida is, how can you say we need anything without knowing what the numbers are?

This should be our first priority, get some kind of count.. I'm quite sure that we'll find that the northwest holds the biggest population, and it will go down from there, from that point we can create a data stream that can outline everything else.. buck to doe, harvest, hunting pressures, food, health of the herds.... it just seems that the basics aren't there to make any kind of Manual to which to work from!

I seem to say this alot but there are no, NO states like Florida, we can't use Texas, N.Carilina or Penns Data to which to derive our deer harvest rates or QDM, just ask any Biologist who has been working in florida, we are unique in this area. We have to have and work from our own Data that we as floridians collect, But i think MOST importantly, we as hunters especially Deer hunters have got to come together and stop butting heads, we'll never get anywhere trying to work alone!

Last but not least, hope everyone Bags a turkey this Fall, good hunting and hope to meet you in the woods!

Mark
