Thanks for the invite! Now, okay.....you know old......uhhhh, ooops, ole CK is a Detroit fan. I'm not one of those immature ranters that has to diss someone else to feel better, though. So..........
My subject in this thread is Larry Brown. He's coached for 31 years and has an impressive resume.....except that he's only won one championship. Still, that does not mean, in and of itself, that he is not a good coach. Having the right talent and being in the right place at the right time has something to do with it.
He has shown a great ability to take a bad NBA club and return it to respectability. He may be the best ever at that. But......is he someone who can lead a club to an NBA title? That's a different thing. He came reasonably close with the Sixers....might have won even except that he ran into a Lakers club that was clearly the best, as their three titles prove. That cannot be held against him. No other coach would have won that series either.
Now, he's gone to Detroit. Are they ready to win an NBA title? No. Not even close yet. They have too many young guys to develop. If--and that's a big if--enough of these guys pan out and mature, they may win one or more titles someday. Someday. That someday is not this upcoming season. The dilemma Larry faces is that fans expect a 50 win season....but developing a young team properly means sacrificing wins sometimes for the sake of growing the team. Will Larry feel the pressure of "win now"? Or will he try to teach his knowledge of the game? Presumably that's why Joe brought him in. His dissenters seem to think he won't work with young guys to develop them. That's is his job at Detroit. It will be interesting to see how he uses his roster.
