Cleveland is not that far, and let's face it, the rivalry between Pittsburgh and Cleveland is still strong. People in my office Downtown were streaming/watching the parade, and talked about it that day.
And I've been reading Aaron Aupperlee's coverage of West Virginia, and looking at his Tweets. It's strong, compelling stuff.
Having said that, I'm still not convinced that The Trib, which is woefully understaffed since the cutbacks, should be taking the time and the resources covering events outside its shrinking coverage area.
I've noticed that they've had Carl Prine covering more local stories, and that's a great call. It should be all hands on deck to cover LOCAL stories, and not churning out months-long projects, like that Mexican border piece, that you can get elsewhere.
It's time for The Trib leadership to stop thinking that they're a newspaper on the national/international stage. It's not.
