A motorcyclist killed in a hit-and-run accident in northeast Harris County has been identified as a veteran Houston firefighter.

Authorities this morning, meanwhile, are trying to locate a pickup or sport utility vehicle that they believe was involved in the accident.

Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 7200 block of Mount Houston just before midnight after learning that a vehicle had struck a motorcycle.

Joseph Edward Hadley Jr., of Tomball, was struck from behind while riding his motorcycle westbound on Mount Houston, officials said.

Hadley, 44, died early today at a hospital.

District Fire Chief Tommy Dowdy said Hadley was a 22-year veteran of the fire department. He worked as a paramedic based at Station 105, which opened early this year at West Lake Houston Parkway and Deussen Parkway, near Lake Houston.

Evidence at the scene suggested that Hadley was hit by a 1999 to 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban or pickup, according to Deputy G. Chelette.

The vehicle will have a concentrated area of heavy damage on its front, or possibly the left side, he said.

Deputies asked that anyone with information about the second vehicle call the Sheriff's Office at 713-221-6000

[> I sure hope they find the scum that did that! Joe Hadley was a great guy. 1 year ago on this very same day Joe tried to save a good friend of mine that was in a m/c accident at Kingwood. He will be missed and hopefully someone will step up with some info on this. -- Doc, Monday, October 13, 10:34:13pm [1]

JoJo was a good friend. He was just talking about bringing his car back out for the next race. It just got painted and was almost ready to go.
