Baytown, �Over 5,000 cheering fans under hot sunny skies marched into Houston Raceway Park Saturday, May 31, for the first of four High Velocity Impact Series events slated for the 2008 season. The action was intense at the Royal Purple Impact race as the blown nitrous door slammers battled the twin turbos to prove who could flex the most muscle. When the smoke cleared the starting line, Kenny Hubbard, Justin Curry, and Chris Calhound topped their fields in King of the Hill Outlaw 10.5, Houston Outlaw True 10.5, and Ultimate Street respectively.

The S&S index series and over 115 racers led by Gary Sangster competed on the concrete 1/8 mile stage fighting for the six first place trophies and points in the 5.00, 5.40, 5.80, 6.20, 6.60, and 7.00 indexes.

On the movie Fast N' Furious at the end when Van Diesel is in the Dodge Charger and riding a wheelie with the back tire spinning these kids are saying that it can be done. Can someone shed light on this to straighten these youngsters minds out. They think you can be spinning the tires off and still be riding a wheelie. - I am certainly no expert but I think the laws of physics would be if the tires are spinning there would not be enough traction to lift that much nose weight. Now you might be able to pull it off in a extremely light nose weight auto with the engine mounted in the rear like one of those built wheelie poppers you see at some drag Racing Events.But in a Stock Bodied Car with front engine ! I am sending this email to everyone on my email address list who lives in Texas .
I want to be sure you are aware of a constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot at the May election.
It is an amendment to correct an error made by the lawmakers when they voted for a reduction in school property taxes in 2005.
When the lawmakers voted for a one-third reduction in school property taxes beginning in 2006 and to be completed this year, they forgot about the homestead exemption for senior citizens and people with disabilities.

The state constitution caps school property taxes for homeowners 65 years and older and those who are disabled.

However, they DID NOT get the same reduction when the property tax cut for schools was voted on two years ago.

So an amendment is on the May ballot to correct this error.

The problem is that most voters who are younger than 65 or not disabled probably won't even notice the amendment or care.

PLEASE get out and vote for this amendment if not for yourself, then for your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends. We would really appreciate your getting the word out to all your friends and families to vote for this amendment.

The fear is that with a low voter turnout, the amendment could very well not pass.

So, please, please pass the word and VOTE for the constitutional amendment.
Early voting will take place April 30 - May 5 from 7 am to 7 pm;
May 6 from noon to 6 pm and May 7 -
May 8 from 7 am to 7 pm.
Election day is May 12 from 7 am to 7 pm

One week after his daughter made Funny Car history with a breakthrough victory in Atlanta, Ga., John Force celebrated his 59th birthday Sunday by becoming the first driver to win 1,000 competitive rounds in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

When Force drove his Castrol GTX High Mileage Ford Mustang to a quarter-mile time of 4.862 seconds, 320.20 miles per hour to beat defending event champion Ron Capps in the first round of Sunday's 12th annual O'Reilly Midwest Nationals, it propelled him to what may be his ultimate accomplishment in the sport.

NHRA officials suspended first round competition to bring Force back to the starting line area where he was congratulated by NHRA president Tom Compton and presented a crystal trophy commemorating his accomplishment.

�You can't win without a good crew, sponsors like Castrol, Ford, the Auto Club and Old Spice and crew chiefs like Austin Coil and Bernie Fedderly,� Force said. �Five hundred races (a milestone he achieved at Atlanta) just means you showed up a lot. But winning a thousand rounds, that means that at a point in time, we were pretty good.�

Hey Doc, I was wondering if I could pick your brain? I have a 1970 chevy truck with an HEI upgrade and sometimes the distributor will fire and sometimes it won't.I can change the distributor with a new one and the same thing happens. What would be your suggestion on how to fix this problem?Thanks for your time DOC!

    - Sorry for the delay but here goes...Put a jumper wire on the battery (+) and hook it to the distributor, If it starts, then the problem is somewhere between the switch and the distributor. Something that you may want to check is whether it is giving power to the dist. as you turn it over. Some solenoids have 2 small wire hookups (R and S). If the (R) is not wired, most likely you are not giving 12 V to the distributor when turning it over. The (S) wire has to be hooked up to engage the starter soleniod. Is NHRA doing anything about all the wrecks that have been happening at HMP? 2 cars got into the wall Saturday and 2 cars got into the wall on Sunday. You would think that with HMP being a sanctioned NHRA track they would be concerned with the amounts of cars being destroyed there. Before anyone runs there mouth, yes I have a car and it does run in the 4 second range but I will not take it back out there until the traction issue is resolved. Looks like I will be making the longer drive to HRP if I want to race.

- HMP has went downhill since doc left there. The track used to be safe and there were no wrecks caused by the track surface. Now that they have people running the track with virtually no knowledge of the operations or track prep, we are the test dummies for their mistakes. When has JG picked up a mop or worked on the track surface? Doc put many hours in making it hook and safe without drawing a dime from them. When he told them he needed to hire some track staff, they decided they would go a different way. Well, they had to hire staff but have no leadership to safety concerns or track operations. As I see it, they have already 1 death on the track and over 200 cars wrecked in the past 2 years. I spend my hard earned money on my cars and don't want them torn to pieces. Last week I had a man come by the shop with big interest to buy my Vette and Jay's Casper car. He approached me with a package deal to buy both of them with the 4 spare motors. I thought about it this past weekend and decided that we might as well go ahead with the deal. (after all, we don't race much anymore)

This morning I recieved a call from the guy again and told him that I would close the deal. He came over a few minutes ago and paid cash. Man I like that! It sure was hard to see my baby go but I look at it like this: I waited on Big D for 2 years to be ready!!! I waited on many others to be ready!!! They all had the talking part but no action!!! Finally, my old tires were starting to dry rot. These cars needed to be raced!!! Now they will.

Jay really didn't have any signs of sadness. He likes the $100 bills better I guess!!! LOL Anyways, Our racing enterprise is over!!! We will be listing all the Lenco's, Bruno's, 9" gearsets, NOS bottles, NOS systems, Blowers, Prochargers, sheetmetal intakes, converters, planetaries, roller camshafts, lifters, rods and cranks, Bowtie and Dart blocks for sale soon. Trailers will be sold also! Not to mention the numerous parts inventory we have accumilated obver the past 35 years!! It's all going to be sold. I also will be selling my 65 vette with the 502/502!!! We will keep you posted when the sale begins.
Drag racing has been really good to us and we are going to miss it...but life goes on!!!!!!

(3-17-2008) Spokane,Washington- Todd Hoerner and John Woods have signed a partnership agreement that will allow them to compete in a minimum of 5 NHRA Pro Stock events in 2008 season, and possibly beyond. Todd will be driving his 2007 Jerry Haas built Dodge Stratus, with David Nickens supplying the Hemi horsepower. Performance Auto, located in Oklahoma City OK, will be the primary sponsor and partner on the car.

New paint, new lexan, Lemmons BBC Headers with Burns Stainless mufflers.Glasstec front end(lift off) and doors 16V lightweight Battery. MSD 7531 with 3 nitrous timers Set up for 4 stages nitrous. The car has 1.11 60'lately and has been 189 mph in the past. Im stepping down because I cant afford to run Outlaw 10.5. I will sell rolling for $35,000 or $50,000 with Conventional headed 638 with 4 stages on a sheet metal intake with a Rossler T-210 3 speed trans that has been freshened up and a Neal chance bolt together convertor that is fresh as well. The motor has run 4.76 @ 153on 2 kits and ran 157 on another 3 stage pass spinning the tires. I will not sell the motor until I sell the car. All is negotiable as I am ready to bail and start on something a little more affordable. I will be running the car Friday and Sat. @ HMP and will continue to run until it is sold.

Let me tell yall about Doc. I was asked why I would drive 3 hours from Longview Tx to get a 400 freshened up... Ill tell ya. I arrived at around 1pm ... he tore it down, found my high dollar planteraies were gone... but instead of saying... fork over $2Gs for new ones...he says... I can fix em. He machined the cage apart, installed new custom parts, and welded back up and turned em dowm.. the put the tranny back together! I left at 9pm that evening with a tranny that shifts like a banshee! Looks like HMP just keeps on adding the wrecks to thier list. J R King tore up his Jerry Haas car Friday nite. That track has went to sh%t. No wonder all the real racing has went to HRP. Nobody wants to spend 100 grand on a race car to race at a track that has no idea of what track prep means.

Back when doc was there, the track hooked and there were no wrecks due to track issues. HMP's idea is to add more VHT. The VHT only turns to jello as moisture sets in. HRP doesn't have the wrecks or cars sliding everywhere.

HMP might as well call their track a destruction alley.

OFF THE HOOK!!!! That's what it was at the ADRL at Houston Raceway Park... Record crowd and the fastest door slammers in the country. Only at HRP!!!!

Traffic was a nitemare in and out of the track but I am so glad to have a HD to ride straight in and out!! LOL The DOT will hold a meeting Tuesday to get the traffic controlled for the Nationals!!!! They never dreamed it would be this big!!! LOL

I feel for those that had to sit in line for hours to get in or out!! But, it was the largest counted spectator race ever in the Houston area and the largest ever at Houston Raceway Park!!!!

It was great to see some of the friends and racers that we haven't seen in a few of years. Yes, we started one of the cars this morning, run the valves and washed it up!!! Looks like retirement is over!!! LOL

I just could not imagine 200+ in the 1/8 mile in a door slammer but seen it myself when Scruggs lit up the scoreboard. 1/8 mile wheelstands were on darn near every pass. Sarah did manage some pics too!!!!! Yep, she can still freeze frame cars at 200+ on her camera. LOL

Anyways, It was a huge race and huge success. It was so great that HRP has given ADRL's Kenny Knowlin & Bonnie Webb the keys to the facility for future events!!!!!! They are already being slated too!!!

The ADRL rocked Houston with the best marketing adventure that has ever been produced in the racing industry. It was as better than the Coca-Cola deal some years back!!!! Special Thanks goes to FLOWMASTER, BRODIX, HOLLEY and the numerous other key sponsors that made this all happen.

A special thanks goes out to Bonnie Webb for making it all possible. Without her, there would never have been an ADRL race in Houston!!!!! The countless hours that she put into the program has proven that she does know how to market drag racing and bring the best of the best to an event!!! That being said....there is plenty more coming to Houston Raceway Park in the future.

- I know people that like it but I personally do not. I am a Valvoline man! If you want performance coatings in your engine, I would suggest Polydyn on your piston skirts, bearings etc. but not a pour in additive. I remember years ago when Lubri-Lon came out. I knew a couple of guys that used it and destroyed their motors. That is why I don't use additives other than Lucas Oil Treatment in all of my vehicles. well, i figured id share some news.. on 2/22/08 @ 11:22 a.m my son brody blue was born. the first boy since me (30) yrs. he weighed 8 lbs right under 20 inches w/hair a real relief to me.. my fiance' about gave out on me one night (15th) of feb.. he blood pressure dropped to 50/27 so they stopped induce and we had to wait another week, so a new lil hot rodder/ bad ass musician inters the thomas family here in oklahoma... one day i'll have him tag along to meet up with you guys down in h-town (doc,sarah,chad,jay) and whomever else.. all is good now and we finally came home today now its recovery time for all.. bye all ~malibu79racerjay~

Power Glide does come with an Ultra_Bell Bellhousing. Transmission is good for 1,000 horse. The Chevelle was running 580 class. 12-bolt ladder bar rearend with 488 pro gears with lighten spool and Moser axles. Cooper Brothers are now installing VFN fiberglass doors and one-piece frontend with hood. The car is still in their shop at this time. Also they are installing a new dash. Cooper Brothers also installed the 12 point rollcage. Seatbelts in car are up-to-date, rear tires have 3 runs. All frontend steering box and linkage are new. Griffin radiator, transmission cooler and electric fans also are included. I also have a aluminum water pump with electric motor kit if needed. Car runs very straight as you can see in the video linked below. Reason for selling car is to make room for the new car. Asking price: $7,500.00.
