Just got a call from Gary and there is 42 true 10's and 30 something outlaws at the Dale. They are qualifying 32 cars in each class. Guess them boys know how to throw a race

Evadale had plenty of testers there last night as you can see by the time slips posted. As said before, you don't want to miss this one. This is the race where they let it all hang out.

The Cavilier boys are there to make a statement with the smallblock. Go by thier pit and meet some fine folks that love drag racing too. Heck, I'll bet Tony already has the BBQ pit cooking those briskets. The weather will hold out so pack up and head for Evadale. You will be glad you did. DSA

I'm at The Dale right now in the timing tower with my laptop. It's a little overcast with a few blue sky portholes showing more frequently. Now just because there is rain in Beaumont or Port Arthur or any where else doesn't mean it is raining here. Come on out tonight and tommorrow for some of the best 10.5 class races ever in the U.S.A.!!! Darren Hoyle, David Reese, Bery Motorsports, Jason Gibson, Bosco Lamoin, Tim Rigby Donny Chavez, The Revias and The Crisps are already here to go for the True 10.5 money and Jeff Naiser has his Outlaw 10.5W Camaro sittin pretty in the trailer just itchin to come out and play!! There are a couple of trailers still closed up so I don't know if they are going in the Outlaw or True 10.5 class. This event will be one for the records!

I have received numerous calls and e-mails to open back up my "From The Hip" weekly newsletter.

While reading the site this morning it is apparent that the weather has everyone keyboard happy. The HRP vs. HMP saga will always be there due to differences in opinions. Some like 1/8, some like 1/4!!!!

Both are excellent tracks and BOTH need your support. It takes a lot of financing to keep a race track open especially with the inclimate weather we have this year.

As the inclimate weather ruins the weekends for racing, the area tracks still have the monthly notes at the bank. Banks are in business to loan money for a profit and the race tracks are in business to make the notes and a profit. It is a tough business when the weather continues to rain everyday.

As I read it, everyone is against Bonnie Webb for moving to HRP with a big race that was offerered to HMP first. I don't know all the circumstances but Bonnie has the connections to make the big races happen. She has a proven track record and will continue to bring the best races to the Houston area. She did it at HMP and now she will do it even bigger at HRP!!!! My hat is off to her for doing such a great job while others want the credit for it and knew nothing about the sport to begin with. They know who they are and know they stepped way over their head.

This being said, I hope everyone will take note that if we do not support both tracks, there will be a decline in moral and less attendance at either facility. When this happens, we all lose. The size of Houston brings plenty of things to do besides attend race tracks where anomosity continues to escalate. If the anomosity declines the races will only get better. Hopefully the rainy weather will go away so everyone can get back out to enjoy what makes them happy.

This weekend brings another big race at Evadale. This is another great facility and the racing is wild!!!! Jody and Tony always have a big turnout and some of the best racing seen anywhere. Two words identify them and their event. "CLASS ACT" If you have no plans this weekend, don't miss the "MADNESS" Race at Evadale. You will be glad you went. I am looking forward to it myself.

This Friday July 20th, Evadale Raceway (officially named Ben Bruce Memorial Airpark Raceway) and Goldentriangleracers.com will provide a Test and Tune session for the big 10.5 race that will be held on Saturday July 21st. There will be one round of qualifying available to those that want to make a hit in the cooler night time conditions. Friday, the gates will �officially� open at 5pm. Racing will begin at 6pm with the qualifying round at 8pm. The track MUST close early at 10PM. The track personnel need to get rested for Saturday and the track manager needs to make sure he has time to do everything he needs to do to insure a track HE can be proud of. Saturday July 21st the gates will �officially� open at 12 noon. Test and Tune will begin at 1PM and there will be 2 qualifying rounds starting at 2pm with the next round at 3:30. The 1st round of eliminations will be at 5PM with 1 hour between rounds. The True 10.5 class will go up first and then the Outlaw 10.5W class. The track does have a small radio station that you can tune your radios in to. 88.3FM This will provide all the track announcements and call up. They also have a PA system but it can be hard to hear some times with all the cars running in the pits. We will do our best to get the information to everyone with a runner if the need arises. There are also lights on the side of the timing tower. The BLUE light will be for TRUE 10.5 and the GREEN light will be for OUTLAW 10.5W. The True 10.5 class will be racing for $6000 winner, $2000 runner up, $400 semis and $250 quarters.

Early Funny Car pioneer Don Gay Sr. dies

Don Gay Sr., a pioneer Funny Car racer known for his and brother Roy's line of Infinity Pontiac race cars, died June 30 at his home in League City, Texas, after a long illness. He was 60.

Gay began his driving career in his teens with a Pontiac stocker and later switched to altered-wheelbase machines that ultimately became today's Funny Cars, and brother Roy later took over the helm.

In the late years, he was active in the family automotive business, known as Gay Pontiac, Buick and GMC as well as Houston Raceway Park, where he was previous co-owner. Two of his sons, Don Jr. and Shane, followed their father to the cockpit on the dragstrip. Don Jr., had a successful career in Alcohol Funny Car but retired from the cockpit after an accident in a nitro Funny Car. Shane also had a winning career in the Super classes and in Alcohol Dragster.

Don Gay Sr. is survived by his mother, Marie Gay; four sons, Don Gay Jr. and wife, Kim, Shane and wife, Kate, Darren, and Glenn; two grandchildren, Eli and Caleb; former wives, Dawna Gay and Peggy Gay. He was preceded in death by his father, Carl and brother, Roy.

The family will receive friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, July 2, with a wake at 6 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in League City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Mary's in League City. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson.

If it is a real SS car and not all rusted out that is not a bad price! And if it happens to be a LS5 or if you are REAL LUCKY it is possible a LS^ then $15 grand would be a REAL STEAL! Hey Doc, had a buddy call me up today mentioning a problem his C4 is having. I believe its an old PA comp C4 with a Trans King valve body and brake, just like mine. He went to move the car around yesterday and reverse wouldn't engage. Then he tried to test the t-brake in 1st and it didn't do anything. He says he can hear the solenoid clicking when he hits the button, but its not engaging reverse.
What could it be?? Is there an adjustment for reverse that he can try without having to pull the trans? It hasn't shown any problems up to this point and hasn't been sitting more than a month.
T-Brake solenoid? He did say he heard it clicking/engaging.

Doc, I got the trans and converter back out. Chris at Circle D is going to drop the stall back down to 4000 for me (going from a loosened #4 pump to a loosened #3 pump). I'd like to bring the trans back over for you to checkout again. I'm almost thinking the t-brake solenoid may not be catching/releasing quick enough, so that may be something to check out.
I noticed that when I hit the t-brake the car seemed to roll an extra inch or two than it did previously.
I'd like to bring the trans over early on Wednesday morning. I've got to take my son to the doctor for a 9:30 appt and thought I could drop it off there around 8:30 or so? Shoot me an email at work and let me know if this is cool with you.

I have known Steve Faria for many years. He owns System 1 on Tulare, CA. His filters work great on just about anything out there. 90% of the alcohol and nitro cars run System 1 filters. What you have is another problem with clearance or machining issues. What main was burnt up. If it was 1 or 2, you have an oiling problem. If you are running an Eagle crank, BEWARE!!!! They are never straight from the factory. We have seen them .004 out on the mains straight out of the box. You stated that it was #3 main.......I would look at line boring and clearances. If it was an oiling problem, #1 would most likely be the first to starve for oil. J.D. The band applies in low gear. If it has a t-brake, loosen the 9/16 nut and run the bolt all the way in until snug, then back out the bolt 3 to 3 1/4 turns. Then lock the nut and try it out. The gear change is not enuf difference to cause a loss in your short time. If the car is spinning, it could be track prep or air pressure. I have a quick question. I lost a piston on a $)* with less than 4000 miles it made 512 RWHP and 494 RWTQ NA. It was a good daily driver that run low 11's. the shop said it was detination but there was no evedence plugs all looked clean, no melting or discoloration.The top ring land on the #7 piston had a small piece broken out that hit the plug. could this be detination or could it be something else. Need more info. If a ring land lifted, I would check the bore size for clearance. What kind of pistons were you using? Was the rings file-fit to the piston/cylinder? Ring butt will cause what you are asking about by not having enough clearance. Pistons and cylinders expand differently when heat is applied, just for thought. The rings should have been file fit but I didn't witness any of the build. The pistons were Wiseco/Diamond Custom Pistons and the rings are Wiseco/Diamond Steel rings. the motor was built by Eric Koenig at HK Enterprises. Thanks for the help Doc it is much appreciated. well, i know this is a long ways away ... but june 9th saturday.. collinsville, oklahoma has a car show that stretches down main street of town... it is just a nice time to get out live music at greybeards biker bar. so you dont have to have a car there are bikes on display aswell.. i have not got my 79' malibu running yet again due to finacial issues... collinsville,oklahoma is slightly north of tulsa,okla. and east of skiatook where i live.. so if anyone is interested in leaving texas and to get away you can even drag ur car at the tulsa raceway park which is like 10 minutes from collinsville.. well figured id share some info...i wanna be in my bu but i doubt it.. later

Hey Doc, I've got so many passes on this trans I've lost count! Green must be mean cause this is 2 years straight of 8 second transbrake launches and the only problem is a few drips of trans fluid from the front pan bolts and the paint flaked off of my converter! Jimbeaux update 31 part c in Kansas: Well Jimbeaux just bought a brand new Duramax diesel truck, he said that while he was board out there in the pastures his old truck could not make the ramp to ramp jumps so he bought this new truck. He has built the ramps even farther apart and higher, but he also said that his love of the wildlife (Emu's and Water Buffalo) helped his decision to buy the truck. It has a sunroof so the Emu's can ride in the cab of the truck, and a bed liner so that the water buffalo don't scratch the paint up in the bed. He also said that he has taught the Emu's how to talk. Anthony Thompson was on this second trip in Iraq serving as a hospital medic and was injured when a suicide bomber went off underneath him while standing on an overpass. The one email said he has severe Spinal injury and the other said he has suffered paralysis both said he has severe head trama. His wife Ivonne is 5 months pregnant. Anthony Thompson is from Huffman and graduated in 2000.

They are having a benefit for them this Saturday May 19th. The benefit will include a barbecue sale at noon, live music, and auction at 6 p.m. Activities will occur at 7054 East FM 1960 in Atascocita (parking lot of Sports Bunker near 24 Hour Fitness). The public is invited. Also, donations may be deposited to the �Anthony Thompson Fund� at the Wells Fargo Bank in Huffman.

Organizers also are seeking donations of brisket sliced hamburger pickles, onions, jalapenos, hamburger buns, plates, plastic utensils, plastic cups, BBQ sauce, foil pans, aluminum foil, Lipton tea bags, lemons and canned soft drinks.
