Baytown, Over 5,000 cheering fans under hot sunny skies marched into Houston Raceway Park Saturday, May 31, for the first of four High Velocity Impact Series events slated for the 2008 season. The action was intense at the Royal Purple Impact race as the blown nitrous door slammers battled the twin turbos to prove who could flex the most muscle. When the smoke cleared the starting line, Kenny Hubbard, Justin Curry, and Chris Calhound topped their fields in King of the Hill Outlaw 10.5, Houston Outlaw True 10.5, and Ultimate Street respectively.
The S&S index series and over 115 racers led by Gary Sangster competed on the concrete 1/8 mile stage fighting for the six first place trophies and points in the 5.00, 5.40, 5.80, 6.20, 6.60, and 7.00 indexes.

- On the movie Fast N' Furious at the end when Van Diesel is in the Dodge Charger and riding a wheelie with the back tire spinning these kids are saying that it can be done. - I am certainly no expert but I think the laws of physics would be if the tires are spinning there would not be enough traction to lift that much nose weight. Now you might be able to pull it off in a extremely light nose weight auto with the engine mounted in the rear like one of those built wheelie poppers you see at some drag Racing Events.But in a Stock Bodied Car with front engine ! It has taken me 3 days too decide too post on here but since some of you have lost loved ones due too drinking and driving, yall will understand..
As I am typing this, Tears are still falling down my face and my Heart still hurts..I wish I could stop my thinking progress off for a while but I just lost 1 of my Best Friends..Eddie Haynes, A Fellow HMP Racer/Friend of many and never met a stranger and always greeted with a Hug and Smile no matter what..Great Father and Husband and leaves behind two boys..age 2 Colon and Edward that is only in 2nd grade that my wife is helping watching and taking care of while I'm here at the house taking care of our kids in between as Eddies wife is in critical condition in Mem Herman Hospital..

They have since closed the place. He has always been a drunk and drug head. Now he has taken lives with no remorse. Subject: IMPORTANT AMENDMENT
Homestead tax cap for 65 & older
You must vote in May to keep the Homestead tax cap for 65 and over, even if you are not 65 yet.
If you are a Texas homeowner then this is important to you. If not, it is important to your friends who are.
If you agree, please pass along to all on your email lists.
I am sending this email to everyone on my email address list who lives in Texas .
I want to be sure you are aware of a constitutional amendment that will be on the ballot at the May election.
It is an amendment to correct an error made by the lawmakers when they voted for a reduction in school property taxes in 2005.
When the lawmakers voted for a one-third reduction in school property taxes beginning in 2006 and to be completed this year, they forgot about the homestead exemption for senior citizens and people with disabilities.
The state constitution caps school property taxes for homeowners 65 years and older and those who are disabled.
However, they DID NOT get the same reduction when the property tax cut for schools was voted on two years ago.
So an amendment is on the May ballot to correct this error.
The problem is that most voters who are younger than 65 or not disabled probably won't even notice the amendment or care.
PLEASE get out and vote for this amendment if not for yourself, then for your parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends. We would really appreciate your getting the word out to all your friends and families to vote for this amendment.
The fear is that with a low voter turnout, the amendment could very well not pass.
So, please, please pass the word and VOTE for the constitutional amendment.
Early voting will take place April 30 - May 5 from 7 am to 7 pm;
May 6 from noon to 6 pm and May 7 -
May 8 from 7 am to 7 pm.
Election day is May 12 from 7 am to 7 pm

One week after his daughter made Funny Car history with a breakthrough victory in Atlanta, Ga., John Force celebrated his 59th birthday Sunday by becoming the first driver to win 1,000 competitive rounds in the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.
When Force drove his Castrol GTX High Mileage Ford Mustang to a quarter-mile time of 4.862 seconds, 320.20 miles per hour to beat defending event champion Ron Capps in the first round of Sunday's 12th annual O'Reilly Midwest Nationals, it propelled him to what may be his ultimate accomplishment in the sport.
NHRA officials suspended first round competition to bring Force back to the starting line area where he was congratulated by NHRA president Tom Compton and presented a crystal trophy commemorating his accomplishment.
You can't win without a good crew, sponsors like Castrol, Ford, the Auto Club and Old Spice and crew chiefs like Austin Coil and Bernie Fedderly, Force said. Five hundred races (a milestone he achieved at Atlanta) just means you showed up a lot. But winning a thousand rounds, that means that at a point in time, we were pretty good.

Hey Doc, I was wondering if I could pick your brain? I have a 1970 chevy truck with an HEI upgrade and sometimes the distributor will fire and sometimes it won't.I can change the distributor with a new one and the same thing happens. - Sorry for the delay but here goes...Put a jumper wire on the battery (+) and hook it to the distributor, If it starts, then the problem is somewhere between the switch and the distributor. Something that you may want to check is whether it is giving power to the dist. as you turn it over. Some solenoids have 2 small wire hookups (R and S). If the (R) is not wired, most likely you are not giving 12 V to the distributor when turning it over. The (S) wire has to be hooked up to engage the starter soleniod. Is NHRA doing anything about all the wrecks that have been happening at HMP? 2 cars got into the wall Saturday and 2 cars got into the wall on Sunday. You would think that with HMP being a sanctioned NHRA track they would be concerned with the amounts of cars being destroyed there. Before anyone runs there mouth, yes I have a car and it does run in the 4 second range but I will not take it back out there until the traction issue is resolved. Looks like I will be making the longer drive to HRP if I want to race.

- HMP has went downhill since doc left there. The track used to be safe and there were no wrecks caused by the track surface. Now that they have people running the track with virtually no knowledge of the operations or track prep, we are the test dummies for their mistakes. When has JG picked up a mop or worked on the track surface? Doc put many hours in making it hook and safe without drawing a dime from them. When he told them he needed to hire some track staff, they decided they would go a different way. Well, they had to hire staff but have no leadership to safety concerns or track operations. As I see it, they have already 1 death on the track and over 200 cars wrecked in the past 2 years. I spend my hard earned money on my cars and don't want them torn to pieces. Last week I had a man come by the shop with big interest to buy my Vette and Jay's Casper car. He approached me with a package deal to buy both of them with the 4 spare motors. I thought about it this past weekend and decided that we might as well go ahead with the deal. (after all, we don't race much anymore)
This morning I recieved a call from the guy again and told him that I would close the deal. He came over a few minutes ago and paid cash. Man I like that! It sure was hard to see my baby go but I look at it like this: I waited on Big D for 2 years to be ready!!! I waited on many others to be ready!!! They all had the talking part but no action!!! Finally, my old tires were starting to dry rot. These cars needed to be raced!!! Now they will.
Jay really didn't have any signs of sadness. He likes the $100 bills better I guess!!! LOL Anyways, Our racing enterprise is over!!! We will be listing all the Lenco's, Bruno's, 9" gearsets, NOS bottles, NOS systems, Blowers, Prochargers, sheetmetal intakes, converters, planetaries, roller camshafts, lifters, rods and cranks, Bowtie and Dart blocks for sale soon. Trailers will be sold also! Not to mention the numerous parts inventory we have accumilated obver the past 35 years!! It's all going to be sold. I also will be selling my 65 vette with the 502/502!!! We will keep you posted when the sale begins.
Drag racing has been really good to us and we are going to miss it...but life goes on!!!!!!
