- Hey Doc... -- Ben...again, Saturday, June 27, 03:37:04pm [1]
Just thought I'd drop you a note that Sully was talking about ya. We went camping, in the RV, on the Guadalupe last week and he had his vintage Reher Morrison t-shirt on that you gave him. Some gear heads came and asked him about his shirt and he said "my buddy James gave this to me". It's one of his favorites, still!

Crane Cams started liquidating this morning at 9 a.m. They were in business for 56 years and produced cams for a tremendous amount of record setting performance vehicles.
A job fair was held last week by a new company names Scorpion in the Crane Cams parking lot. It seems thet they have purchased the cam rights from Crane.
More on this as we get it.

- Crane Cams RIP 1953-2009 -- Doc, Tuesday, March 31, 12:37:35pm [1]
Well, a couple of weeks ago I recieved a call from a friend telling me that Crane Cams had closed the doors!!! After some research, I found out that they had indeed shut down the entire pland and laid off 280 workers. Loos like the economy is hitting the performance industry now!!! Get in, strap down $ hold on for the ride!!!! Doc
To borrow a line from the classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Crane Cams isn't quite dead yet. The storied aftermarket auto parts company was founded back in 1953 and has since grown into a well-known brand name specializing in camshafts and valvetrain components. While the company did, in fact, recently close its doors and tell all 280 of its employees not to come back the next day, vice president Steve Leva says that Crane plans to reopen after restructuring takes place, which could take as little as a week or as long as a month. Considering the sorry state of affairs that currently plagues the American economy, we'll keep tabs on this story with guarded optimism

- Jury sentences man to life in prison for DWI murder -- Sarah, Thursday, March 26, 06:13:05pm [1]
Here is the link to the Conroe Courier Newspapter article below.
http://www.hcnonline.com/articles/2009/03/26/conroe_courier/breaking_news/schmidt0327.txt
Updated: 03.26.09
A Montgomery County Jury sentenced Harold Blain Schmidt to life in prison Thursday after convicting him of felony murder in the May 11, 2008, drunk-driving death of Lexie Edward Haynes IV, of Montgomery County.
The felony murder charge was pursued as a result of the three prior driving while intoxicated convictions on Schmidt’s record. Schmidt’s blood alcohol content was approximately four times the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Brett Peabody and Rob Freyer presented the case for the state, led by investigating Officer Jeff Smith, of the Conroe Police Department. Smith testified that while on bond following an arrest for his fourth DWI, Schmidt failed to yield the right of way to a motorcycle driven by Haynes. The 58-year-old Schmidt, of Onalaska, had disabled the ignition interlock device he was required to have on his vehicle as a condition of his bond. Cheryl Haynes, Haynes’ wife, was a passenger on the motorcycle and is permanently disabled as a result of the crash. The jury sentenced the defendant to the maximum of 20 years in prison for the intoxication assault charge associated with her injuries.
They also handed down two 16-year sentences to Schmidt for fleeing from the scene of the accident and running to hide in the woods. Maximum fines were assessed in each count.
After the verdicts were pronounced by 359th District Court Judge Kathleen Hamilton, multiple victims’ family members described a fun-loving couple who enjoyed horseback riding and drag racing as a family. Jurors cried as Haynes’ mother described observing the couple underneath their mustang preparing it for the next race.
“This family should never have had to experience such a tragic loss,” District Attorney Brett Ligon said. “Mr. Schmidt turned his vehicle into a deadly weapon when he got behind the wheel that night. While no amount of prison time can heal these families’ wounds, I want to assure the public that we will continue to pursue maximum sentences on repeat DWI offenders until Montgomery County loses the distinction of having some of the deadliest roadways in the state.”

- Help -- Jesse Foster, Saturday, February 07, 12:02:32pm [22]
Does the electric choke on a Holley Carb need constant power on the hot wire, this a rebuilt engine 305 with 350 heads , i got 40lbs oil pressure at idle, at 170 temp, put the motor together with litium grease, what would make it smoke white at idle and racing it up. Could the cat back converter make it smoke from the old engine? Got it started Super Bowl weekend, did the break in on the cam
[ Post a Reply to this Message ][Edit]
Replies:
- It may be oil that was in the exhaust before the new engine was cranked. Sometimes the oil on the valve guides of a new engine will cause smoke but should clear up after a few minutes of warming up. The choke will cause black smoke if partially closed. Oil will cause white/gray smoke. An intake manifold that is not torqued properly will cause oil to wick out the exhaust too. And yes, the choke must have a (+) wire to work properly on electric chokes. (NT) -- Doc, Sunday, February 08, 12:27:08am

- The Clashof the Titans World Finals! -- cott, Wednesday, November 19, 05:47:05pm [1]
The Clash of the Titans
World Championship Finals
November 29th
The Clash of the Titans world finals is set for November 29th at Houston raceway park in Baytown Tx. This is were champions will be crowned and we will be able to see who really has what it takes to compete with some of the worlds very best. Houston being the home of the majority of The Clash racers is expected to have a great turn out in all classes. The whole houston area just went through a bad time with hurricane IKE and will be ready to start racing again soon. Look for the action to be at a all time high and with the addition of the sport compact and motorcycle challenges we should have a great turn out. We expect to have world records shattered and reset several times in the same day. The only way you will be able to know who is the baddest in the land is to come to Houston Raceway Park and see some of the worlds best racers do battle. It will be wheels up, tire smoking, heart stopping, bumper scrapping action from start to finish so dont miss it.
Make sure you get those cars polished up and ready for the cameras. RPM Magazine will have Scott Singleton at Houston Raceway Park to cover our event. We would like to thanks the editors of RPM Magazine and Scott Singleton for coming to cover The Clash of the Titans World Finals . RPM Magazine has done some real nice articles in the past and we thank them for their support.
The Clash of the Titans drag racing series has always tried to have a little something to please everyone, from racing fan to fanatic, and The world Finals will be no exception. Between the Heads Up racing, and jet Funny Car there is not a dull moment in the stands. If you should happen to leave the stands there is always a nice car show and for the gearhead in all of us there is a spectacular vendor midway that showcases the latest in automotive performance parts along with a swap meet to buy used parts.

- Road trip story somewhere in Kansas.. -- Nick Tha P...., Tuesday, October 28, 09:23:07pm [2]
About a month ago was traveling from Kansas back to Houston. Stopped at the tourist center in southern Kansas on the turnpike. Wanted to get Jonathan and Judy some soveniours, was looking an the shelves and I came across bottles of "EMU Juice" it retails for $16.95 a bottle (plus tax of course). Started reading the applications for the EMU Juice and it stated "rub on athritic joints and the pain goes away, excellent for sticky door jambs, wipe in the arm pits to take away unwanted arm pit hair, removed hair from the ears...among many other uses and it was 100% biodegradable! Looked at who made it and he label read "Manufactured, bottled and distributed by Jimbeaux, Inc."....Now this is incredible Jimbeaux has his own line of EMU Juice wow often replicated but never duplicated...
It got down to 27 degrees last night already, the weather is wonderful up here, but the wind is always I mean always blowing up here, it either blows from the north at 40 mph or from the south at 40 mph. Already had to change from my redneck winter clothes to the serious cold weather gear, still buying stuff getting ready for the 10 below weather they get up here, that cold of weather for sure will kill the skeeters up here.
Got pulled over in Enid Oklahoma 3 weeks ago on my trip back up here, he pulled me over doing 87 in a 70 mph zone, he was in a charger I asked him if it had the Hemi and he grinned and said yes, he was nice enough I got a warning and he let me go, he asked if I was still living in Houston, told him yes sir, he asked me where I worked and told him Kansas, he almost dropped his clipboard...LOL
There are classic cars and drag cars everywhere up here, they don't flaunt it as they are very conservative up here but cars are everywhere. Plenty of treasure hunting too, me and Jimbeaux got some treasure hunting places that we got to go visit.
If you ever make up this far call Jimbeaux and have him smoke some of his patented smoked ribs....they will make you slap your momma!

- try walking back wards and talking like a parrot. Listen for closed doors. find the closed door with the mirror on it. Ear plugs will help with the echo. If this doesn't help, drink some of Jimbeax's Emu Juice, and quit talking like a parrot, that will aggravate the emus. You will know your close when you find one red shoe. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6055181.html
A motorcyclist killed in a hit-and-run accident in northeast Harris County has been identified as a veteran Houston firefighter.
Authorities this morning, meanwhile, are trying to locate a pickup or sport utility vehicle that they believe was involved in the accident.
Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the 7200 block of Mount Houston just before midnight after learning that a vehicle had struck a motorcycle.
Joseph Edward Hadley Jr., of Tomball, was struck from behind while riding his motorcycle westbound on Mount Houston, officials said.
Hadley, 44, died early today at a hospital.
District Fire Chief Tommy Dowdy said Hadley was a 22-year veteran of the fire department. He worked as a paramedic based at Station 105, which opened early this year at West Lake Houston Parkway and Deussen Parkway, near Lake Houston.
Evidence at the scene suggested that Hadley was hit by a 1999 to 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban or pickup, according to Deputy G. Chelette.
The vehicle will have a concentrated area of heavy damage on its front, or possibly the left side, he said.
Deputies asked that anyone with information about the second vehicle call the Sheriff's Office at 713-221-6000
