Subject: Help

Does the electric choke on a Holley Carb need constant power on the hot wire, this a rebuilt engine 305 with 350 heads , i got 40lbs oil pressure at idle, at 170 temp, put the motor together with litium grease, what would make it smoke white at idle and racing it up. Could the cat back converter make it smoke from the old engine? Got it started Super Bowl weekend, did the break in on the cam

[> It may be oil that was in the exhaust before the new engine was cranked. Sometimes the oil on the valve guides of a new engine will cause smoke but should clear up after a few minutes of warming up. The choke will cause black smoke if partially closed. Oil will cause white/gray smoke. An intake manifold that is not torqued properly will cause oil to wick out the exhaust too.
