I'm one of those people who has always enjoyed reading from a physical paper, whether it be newspaper, magazines, books, etc. There's something about it that I really can't place. I actually enjoy the layout of the newspaper compared to the format on the internet sites, but, even in digital format when they've presented in the same layout, is not the same.

I guess I just enjoy the ability to just pick it up and read whatever part that I wish to read, with respect to a newspaper or magazine. With a book, I'm one of those who sometimes like to read the last page (kind of like Harry Burns from Harry met Sally). And sometimes, I tend to want to figure out how many pages I have before the end of a chapter. I hate stopping at mid chapter. And reading ebook on the Palm just doesn't seem like the real thing.

But it is very nice and convenient to be able to carry the entire book in your Palm, or even several books. Imagine carrying several heavy books with you everywhere. There's the convenience of an ebook. I'm not a heavy book reader, but rather enjoy audio book instead, since I can listen to a book during my spare time. I can easily close my eyes, and relax while still listening to an audio book. Not so with an ebook. I have to concentrate on reading the words. I find it much less stressful, especially at the end of the day to listen to my Audible. So, I'm not really into ebooks, but more audio books. But ebooks are very nice to have.

For my money, ebooks beat paper hands down. I used to be a devout bibliophile, prowling used bookstores and loving the smell and feel of a good book.

But you know what? That's not what really matters. You don't see wine lovers buying empty bottles, do you? The book isn't paper, it's the words.

And with ebooks, I can carry a LOT of words. I've got nearly a thousand ebooks on my 1GB SD card and all of them are readable in either eReader or Palm Fiction (I prefer the latter for many reasons I won't get into here). I've got nearly complete collections of Asimov and Heinlein, Dan Simmons and James Rollins. I just finished rereading the complete Douglas Adams Hitchhiker's series, and now I'm halfway into the novelization for "Revenge of the Sith." I've got the complete works of Shakespeare, favorites from Victor Hugo and Alexandre Dumas, I've got Walt Whitman and William Blake. I've got Stephen King, James Patterson and Tess Gerritson. My entire library can go with me wherever I go, and with my Tungsten T5, I've got typography rivaling a mass-market paperback.

Pick one: something the size and weight of a card deck, or a U-Haul full of paperbacks.

Because in the end, we're taking about bottles, here. The wine is the same either way.
