'Just finish the rise if ye can, we'll get the rest in tomorrow,' Julep Maier said to her young apprentice. The boy could bake a Lammas loaf that rivalled her own- and in her private thoughts she thought he'd bested her- but your average wheat and barley endeavor often turned out as if Kieran's head were filled with stones from Vetera.

'Yes ma'am.' Kieran's voice replied, moving his fists in a few more quick kneads and sending the promising looking bit of dough off to rise in the shop's large pantry.

Julep brushed her stubby fingered hands off on a flour sack towel and regarded Kieran. She shook her head. 'I swear boy it's as if you've had a curse on you from an angry wizard in Cade. But you'll get it eventually' Kieran nodded with that gentle smile of his. Stubborn and a bit blockheaded, he was still a handsome young thing that often sent Julep into memories of fresher days. She smiled to herself as she turned to address a customer.

'Two loaves of sourdough, please Mistress,' a kind older gentleman requested.
