Behind the kinder, older gentleman was a small dog Pooka. His bright eyes sparkled as he looked about the bakery, but he seemed to shift back and forth impatiently. He politely awaited his turn, and then stepped up to the counter, attempting to look over the it but finding himself still a few inches too shy.

"Miss... umm... Miss..." His oversized eyes and big floppy dog ears were the paragon of cuteness "Miss... my momby says I am sposed to get some hot-dog buns, and that you make the best hot-dog buns in the world. She says that since I am a good good good boy that I can come down and get a thing of hot dog buns and some sugar rolls and some cakes... here" He handed her a small note. It read:

Mrs. Maier,

Tommy is to get two bags of sandwhich-sliced bread. He'll not be getting anything else, and Julep, can you please tell him that launching his neighbor's kitty cat into the air is NOT NICE! Boys who do that don't get sugar-rolls!
