Subject: I officially hate Vista.

To be fair, it's probably not Vista's fault. It's most likely my fault as I'm too lazy to figure it all out. But that's the point. I shouldn't have to figure it all out this late into computer technology.

I LOVE my new computer (Sony Vaio with the cpu right in the monitor, and wireless keyboard that you can fold up. It looks like the monitor screen is floating.)It's gorgeous. But the operating system? Not so much. I've had this computer for 3 1/2 months, and every day, I give up on something or other.

Today it's You Tube. I can't get any of the videos. Yesterday, it was Flash...I have to download it all over again.

Posting on the HB is dead slow. I'm just totally irritated. I don't WANT to be asked if I'm allowing an email to be sent. Of COURSE I know I have email in my Outbox. I just hit SEND! Why would I need to give two instruction?

I know judi is not having a problem, or if she is, she figures it out right away. But I'm fast losing interest. Is anyone else finding Vista a tad annoying?

[> I really really want to buy myself a laptop, but I really really don't want to have to deal with Vista. I'm thinking of buying a used one with Windows XP, even though they are phasing XP out now. -- SeaBeth, 06:51:00 04/20/08 Sun [1]

[> [> I don't want to put anyone off Vista for the wrong reasons. I spoke to judi about my probs and she doesn't have those problems with Vista at all. So she wants to take a look at what I'm doing wrong. I have ZERO patience. It would probably take me just a little time to sort it all out. PLEASE don't go by what I say. Vista is not that bad, and maybe not bad at all. JUDI, please post to tell your side of the story. -- Cece, 10:51:17 04/20/08 Sun [1]

[> Vista is inevitable - until Bill Gates decides to change OS's yet again. It's not awful, but it's a hog - a big hog. XP ran ok in a half a gig, but Vista needs at least 2gb though Microsoft says it only needs 1gb. Inside... -- judi, 11:36:53 04/20/08 Sun [1]

I have a quad core processor (which means I have 4 processors) and 3gb memory. It's using a 1.5gb just to run vista. Once you get past that, it's not bad. So you need to make sure you have enough memory to run it.

Also, not everything is optimized for Vista yet which seems totally stupid to me. Voy is slow on my computer too so it's not your computer.

When you get a new computer, the manufacturer puts a lot of crap on it. There are trial versions of stuff and unless you want to buy it, uninstall it. There are services they think should be running in the background that you don't need.

You don't need to be afraid of Vista, just make sure you get enough memory.

[> [> Thank you judi. My beautiful computer only has 2 gig memory, which should be enough, but obviously isn't. I'm sure I need to clean up my hidden junk, to optimise. Fortunately, I have a nerdy pal who knows what she's doing around pooters...lol. -- Cece, 11:45:32 04/20/08 Sun [1]

[> [> And Cece -- I have Vista (and I'm getting used to it!) ... but I don't use MS Outlook for e-mail..... so I don't get Vista asking me inane questions like you do. I connect via Verizon FIOS and I go through their website to do e-mailing. I have Norton and I do all the Wibndows downloads for Security ... but since so many nasty surprises seem to be able to come through via e-mail, I feel a teensy bit safer. But then, maybe that's stupid and I just don't understand how it works! -- MichelleB, 12:21:01 04/24/08 Thu [1]

[> Well, DH is the biggest computer geek I know, and he hates Vista. Several times he has uninstalled it and put XP back on his computer. Then, he tries Vista again, and gets frustrated again. Just last night he was talking about going back to XP again. But then again, he is running a lot of stuff on his computer that normal people aren't: like World of Warcraft and all the fancy hardware that you need to optimize that game. Shrug. -- JAG Junkie (Ronda), 04:47:36 04/23/08 Wed [1]

[> I'm not having any trouble with my Vista. My laptop is almost a year old and my desktop about 6 months, so I guess I'm just used to it now. The few times I've borrowed my old computer (I gave them both to DF who is having more problems with getting used to XP than I am Vista). As to the videos, I was never able to figure out how to download them until I got my Vista. I downloaded RealPlayer and now get an option to download videos when I watch them. -- kstorm, 10:20:01 04/26/08 Sat [1]

[> You can still buy new computers with XP on them. Just try the "small and medium business" section on Dell or Gateway. You have your choice of Vista or XP plus the computer'll come without a lot of the pre-installed stuff the home versions do. You don't have to have a business to purchase from that section. -- Sarahsue, 19:50:07 04/26/08 Sat [1]
