Subject: I don't use Limewire, but I *did* use Napster A LOT back before all these lawsuits and anti-piracy campaigns started. Inside

I won't tell you how much time I spent on Napster way back several years ago. I used it because I was looking for Christian pop and Christian rock from the 70s, most of which is out of print. Some of that stuff was rereleased onto CD, then went out of print again. But a lot of awesome treasures never made it onto CD. I searched for months for some songs and I was finally able to get them when the ONE person who had those songs was actually on Napster at the same time I was. Alas, some stuff I never found. sniff, sniff!

My point (and yes I have one) is that I was getting stuff that was not available for purchase. Believe me, if I could go out and buy that stuff, I'd be there paying top dollar. But I don't have that option in most cases. Some of the stuff I got from Napster has since been remastered onto CD and I *have* actually gone out and bought the CDs (at a premium price) despite the fact that I have downloaded versions on my computer. For one thing, when you have the actual CD, you get all the liner notes and pictures. And being the music junkie that I am, I actually read the liner notes--I want to know where it was recorded, who the studio musicians were, who sang BGVs, etc.

I tried Limewire briefly a year or two ago when I was looking for two new Christian songs that I actually liked (gasp!) I didn't want to buy the whole albums, so I looked for a place to buy just the two songs online, but everywhere I checked, it said that those songs were not available for online purchase. DH suggested Limewire and I looked for several days, but never found them. I eventually gave up. Then my computer crashed and I never bothered to reinstall Limewire because I hadn't had much success with it. (But I probably didn't give it enough time). Incidentally, I did find one of the CDs at a used CD store and spent $10 for it--all for one song--hated the rest of the songs. I never did find the other.

I have been tempted to download Limewire again and start searching for oldies again, but I know from past experience with Napster that it will completely suck my time, and I don't have a lot of that right now, unfortunately.

It saddens me to think that Limewire may end up with the same fate that the old Napster did. I feel like a valuable potential resource is being taken away with no alternatives. And it makes me regret that I didn't get involved with Limewire sooner. Because those old songs are just going to get more and more rare.
