Subject: I suppose this must somehow affect music profits - but - when I was a kid you could go out and by a 45 of your favorite song- now you have no choice (that I know of) but to buy a $15 CD of the whole album - I suspect things like limewire is the 'mother of invention' that modern technology has come up with to replace the old single song 45

[> [> [> [> That's true. I was responding to chrisk saying we can't get our favorite single without buying the whole album. Well we can. -- Theresa, 18:03:33 03/28/07 Wed [1]

[> [> [> [> [> Usually, yes. But recently there was a new song on the radio, & I wanted that one song but not the whole album. But when I went online to buy the song, only *some* of the songs on the album were available to be purchased for download. The song I wanted, however, had a nice little disclaimer next to it saying it could not be purchased online. Maybe this is a rare occurance, but I was pretty miffed about it. -- JJ (Ronda)--hopefully that experience is not the norm!, 19:03:38 03/28/07 Wed [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> What do ya know? I just checked online, and that song is finally available for purchase, TWO years later. I wonder what they're reasoning was for holding it so long. Maybe they were hoping that people would give up and buy the whole album. shrug. -- JJ (Ronda), 19:11:49 03/28/07 Wed [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> I wonder if contacting the record company in an instance like that would help, BUT, here's why I'm guessing that song was unavailable... did it have a "guest artist" on it? Someone who "appears courtesy of XYZ Records"?? Maybe XYZ's lawyers were negotiating for a cut of sales and there was a disagreement.... I could see it happening. -- The Chief, 17:18:31 03/29/07 Thu [1]

[> [> [> [> [> [> [> [> Funny thing is, only 5 of the 11 songs on the album are available for download on iTunes and the RealPlayer music store. Only Walmart.com has all 11 songs available for purchase individually, and that was not the case a year or so ago. You may be on to something. This particular album is all guest artists, so to speak. It's a praise and worship album by various people, but they are all virtually unknowns. Shrug. -- JJ (Ronda)--sorry for hijacking the thread with all my ranting. LOL, 19:55:22 03/29/07 Thu [1]
