Subject: Unbelievable! Author: Ned Depew [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] Date Posted: 12:49:32 06/14/05 Tue Gene - the ultimate do-nothing himself - complains that FoH has taken six years to generate the proposals that will be presented in detail on June 18th. He conveniently forgets that they spent and enormous amount of time, money and energy (none of it the Taxpayers!) over the last six years to see to it that the proposed SLC project was held to the standards set by the very governement agencies that Gene told us we should "trust" to do what was right. We did, and they did. The SLC proposal was rejected, as it should have been. But if FoH and its more than 4,000 members and the many members of the broader coalition which coalesced around it hadn't given their time, energy and money, we could already be breathing tons of pollution every day and Hudson could have fallen back into being a City at the mercy of a single industry. The "Plan" being presented is simply an outline - albeit in some ways a fairly detailed one - of some ideas about where some of us might like to take the County in the next decades, and how we might be able to come together to achieve goals that some of us share. That's the very first step. The meeting will be a next step, as people talk about which goals (inculding any they want to add) they want to make priorites, and which ones individual people want to lend their energy and expertise to. The step after that will be for those who want to work on particular issues - like affordable housing, say - to get together, within or outside FoH, and do the hard, day-to-day work to get things done. Gene, you have already told us the you would "never" work with FoH - apparently even if you agreed with them or if they had a great idea! Apparently you would rather eat worms, since you didn't get your own way about SLC (luckily for you and all of us). So, Gene, since you've already made it clear that you hate FoH, that you would "never" work with them, why do you even bother to read and comment on their flyers or their plans? You couldn't care less, right? And why should anyone care what you think, since you would "never" support anything they did, no matter what? Is it that taking pot-shots at those who are actually trying to do something for the region is so much easier than proposing anything yourself, and working to accomplish it? You do nothing yourself - unless you consider having been a member of the phony SLC organization HVEEC "doing something" - and then you disparage those who are actually trying to do something. People still do not understand that their pocketbooks fuel everything one way or another. We are not aware of what actions all people took, take or did not take. Many of us make such assumptions. We are wrong to do so. Gene is active in things all over the county. I know. We work together on some issues and are opponents on other issues. NOT just SLC stuff. If you do not see us it means you are not there.

I do lots of important things too, but I do them in secret and I'm so modest I'm not going to tell you what they are. But I will tell you that they are important and I do lots and lots of them. Sorry about that - but - If you are actually getting things done, then you have a right to talk about the issues that are important to you and what you have accomplished - and what you intend to accomplish. In fact, you have a duty to get those issues all the attention you can. My point was that Gene - and Tom - spend hours criticizing the proposals others put forward for discussion and hopefully eventual action - while they put forward exactly zero themselves. They are great at denigrating others' aspirations, but not very good at talking about where they would like to see the region go and how they think it ought to get there. I haven't seen a single positive proposal from either one of them (except the proposal to "build the plant" and that was neither positive - IMHO - nor was it "theirs" - they were just parroting the Company line). Have you? Please show me the evidence. I want to believe that Tom and Gene are something more than simply "nattering Nabobs of negativity" (to quote Spiro Agnew) but I need evidence. If you have it, I beg you to produce it.

They do not brag so you accuse them of apathy. Good job. As far as proof that TK knows or does not know, is or is not, history? I have listened to and read many people's words. I have my opinion. Well informed wisdom on this subject. There is too much to post here and I don't feel obligated as most would be (inappropriately) negated on this board anywhoooooo. In any case, he is innocent until proven guilty. Historical until proven not. The burden of proof is on the accuser/doubter. Until your current mood is gone..the current and apparent snit, no more wasteful posting by me, for now, really I quit. P.S. You would do well to not be so disrespectful to your elders. Don't you want to see such mis-information corrected? Do you consider that the presentation of ideas different from your own somehow "negates" what you post? The idea of the "marketplace of ideas" - of which this is one small "shop" - is that competeing ideas are presented, and we have a chance to hear all sides, examine the suppositions, chains of evidence and logic on which they are based, and make up our own minds which makes the most sense to us. He has been an activist for many years and not just here. He ran for mayor. Successfully won a legal battle with the city. Served in so many different capacities I can not count them all. But the point I was making in this thread was that he and Gene complain all the time and tear down the efforts of those who are trying to do (right or wrong) something for Hudson, to make it a better place to live - but they don't put forward any ideas (in the present) or work toward - as far as I can see - any kind of positive future.
