Everyone (Spike, Giles, Willow) are still in their places in the sitting room. Buffy is still pacing in front of them BUFFY Doe she know? GILES I can’t say BUFFY Say GILES I mean I can’t say because I don’t know BUFFY She’s seventeen Giles GILES Buffy I know, but… BUFFY This isn’t like last time, this isn’t to save the world, the world isn’t going to end because of this. SHE IS. SPIKE (puts his hand on Buffy’s shoulder) Buffy… BUFFY Don’t touch me (a little dazed) I need to see Dawn WILLOW Do you think that’s such a good idea? BUFFY I’m not going to tell her, not until we have a cure (beat) Don’t even think about saying “but” because we’re going to find one and I don’t care who I have to kill to get it. CUT TO. INT – SUMMERS HOUSE UPSTAIRS – NIGHT Buffy gathers herself outside Dawn’s room, wiping her tears on her sleeve BUFFY Dawn? No Answer. BUFFY Dawn it’s Buffy can I come in? After a long pause she steps into the room, Dawn’s clothes are all over the floor and the window is wide open. CUT TO. INT – SUMMERS LIVING ROOM – NIGHT WILLOW What are we going to do? SPIKE The only thing we can do (sigh) Whatever Buffy says GILES I’ll get onto the Coven, see what they know and… BUFFY She’s gone WILLOW Buffy? BUFFY Dawn’s not in her room, she’s ran away Starring Sarah Michelle Gellar Nicholas Brendon Michelle Trachtenberg Tom Lenk James Marsters Alyson Hannigan as Willow Special Guest Star Anthony Head, Kristine Sutherland as Joyce Guest Starring Clare Kramer, Thad Luckinbill, Iyari Limon as Kennedy INT – XANDERS APARTMENT – NIGHT Willow bursts through the door and stops in shock. Andrew is dancing around to “Surfin’ USA” using a tennis racket as a guitar. Spike rolls his eyes. Andrew spins round and falls over when he sees them standing there. ANDREW I was just…there was a bee and I was trying to get rid of it WILLOW Have you seen Dawn? ANDREW Wrong house duh! WILLOW She ran away ANDREW Ran away like Lassie? WILLOW No, ran away like Buffy ANDREW Was that supposed to be sarcastic because it doesn’t work when Buffy’s ran away before SPIKE Have you seen her or not? ANDREW I haven’t seen her Both turn to leave, Willow turns back to Andrew WILLOW Nice moves, you take classes? ANDREW Only from Sp… (off Spike’s look) Special videos CUT TO. INT – BRONZE – NIGHT Buffy enters in a state of panic as she rummages around for Dawn. Giles follows quickly GILES Buffy you need to calm down BUFFY Don’t tell me to calm down GILES If Dawn sees you like this she’ll immediately know something isn’t right Buffy stares at Giles before gathering herself. GILES That is assuming of course that she can detach herself from the orgy Buffy looks confused before turning to where Giles is looking. Dawn is seriously lacking in clothes (We’re talking “Him” but less classy) and seriously grinding (we’re talking Faith) She spins around, she’s holding a beer. BUFFY She knows GILES How can you be sure? BUFFY Dawn, the indie book child is drunk and grinding to 50 cent! GILES She’s dancing for money? BUFFY (rolls eyes) Wait here! Buffy slowly approaches Dawn BUFFY (confused) You’re arm got better? DAWN Seems so BUFFY Dawn can I talk to you for a moment? DAWN No (beat) I don’t have time to waste talking BUFFY Dawn… DAWN I have a check list in my purse, things to do before I die, I guess I should get a move on BUFFY Stop it DAWN Actually can you check off get drunk? BUFFY Stop it. DAWN What? Why are you so upset, it’s not like I’m real anyway, is it? BUFFY You are real DAWN Right, so you can name one more “real” person who’s physically crumbling? BUFFY Giles is close DAWN Don’t try and be funny Buffy. Just go away. BUFFY No. DAWN Fine Dawn grabs her jacket and walks away, Buffy grabs her by the arm DAWN (screaming) Don’t touch me! BUFFY Dawnie listen to me DAWN No you listen to me Buffy, I’m seventeen, I’ve got good things going at school, RJ finally has stopped looking at me like I’m about to eat his family and thing’s are going well so don’t come here and try to tell me you’re going to stop me from dying! (beat) If you’ll excuse me there’s lots of men outside and I figure I should have sex before I die BUFFY That’s enough! Dawn this is serious do you even realise what’s happening? DAWN Dying. Did we not catch up yet? BUFFY I know you’re scared but we can get through this DAWN Stop acting like you care Buffy, with Mom gone and me on the way, all you need to do is slip a pencil through Spike and you’re free of the burden of loving Buffy slaps Dawn, not with a slayer’s slap but a sister’s slap. DAWN (sad) I’m just scared BUFFY I know DAWN You’re not going to stop me living my life Buffy Buffy goes to speak but Dawns eye’s flash a blinding green, dazing Buffy until Dawn smacks her six feet into the air, landing on a table as Dawn runs away BUFFY Dawn! END OF PART ONE INT – SUNNYDALE HIGH SCHOOL – NIGHT Buffy, Kennedy and Willow are gathered in the library BUFFY Anything? KENNEDY I’ve looked in every store in the mall with Karla and Dionne. Celena and Tori went to the multiplex and Giles has called through to L.A BUFFY L.A? KENNEDY He said she had friend there, from before you moved here BUFFY Thanks KENNEDY Buffy, Dawn can take care of herself, what’s the huge deal? Buffy doesn’t say anything WILLOW Kennedy! KENNEDY What? I don’t understand why there’s such a big deal about a seventeen year old not coming home. She’s a perfectly able fighter WILLOW You wouldn’t understand KENNEDY That’s because nobody will tell me anything WILLOW Right, now is the time to start whining about being left out KENNEDY Willow I’m not whining I just think of there’s something I’m being used for, then I should know what it is WILLOW Why do you have to know everything? CUT TO. INT – RJS HOUSE – AFTERNOON RJ walks out of the bathroom, his towel wrapped around his waist as enters his room. The door slams behind him, Dawn is stood there in leather pants and a tiny top RJ Dawn! (shocked and wary) What are you doing here? DAWN You’re a bad boy RJ, you should be in class RJ Free period DAWN Wanna pass the time? RJ What were you thinking? DAWN I think you know RJ I think you’re drunk DAWN Does it matter? RJ Look, I don’t know what the deal is lately but I’m not going to take advantage of you DAWN How about I take advantage of you? RJ I think you should leave DAWN (rolls eyes) Fine, if you’re gay just tell me RJ I’m not gay DAWN Right RJ Dawn, whatever it is, deal with it. Talk to me when you’re sober. RJ walks her down to the door and shuts it on her. She stands on the other side looking pissed, but shocked with herself, itching her arm as she walks away. CUT TO. INT – MAGIC SHOP – NIGHT Andrew is half asleep as he looks through books in the magic box Giles walks over after hanging up the phone GILES Well… ANDREW I was just blinking real long GILES (Ignoring) It seems that the coven, nor the remaining watchers are aware of anything involving the key, however they’re promising to keep on the research KENNEDY Research isn’t helping, it’s not getting us anywhere we need to act GILES I’m afraid, Kennedy, that it’s easier said than done, unless we have Dawn or somebody who knows a significant deal about the key, we’re struck. KENNEDY How about the monks? Willow said monks made her? GILES That’s correct however they were obliterated long ago, the chances are there is few if any that are still alive today KENNEDY But that’s still chances right, there’s a possibility we can find them? GILES I don’t see how I hadn’t seen this before, of course if Willow can trace the Monk’s then we can get to the source of their creation, we can make them set the form. (beat) Kennedy call Willow, get her over here CUT TO. INT – SUMMERS HOUSE – NIGHT WILLOW Okay KENNEDY (O.S) Giles said it has to be done right away WILLOW Kennedy put Giles on KENNEDY (O.S) Willow listen to me I know what I’m saying WILLOW Okay but I need to speak to Giles CUT TO. INT – MAGIC BOX – NIGHT KENNEDY She won’t listen to me Kennedy walks off and it’s down at Andrew’s side GILES Hello? WILLOW (O.S) Run that by me again GILES I think what Kennedy told you was pretty clear, she had the idea of a locator spell to trace any of the surviving monks INT – SUMMERS HOUSE – NIGHT WILLOW Thanks Giles, I’m on it Willow puts the phone down and stands to head upstairs. SPIKE Wha’sat? WILLOW Giles came up with the best Idea BUFFY What sort of idea? WILLOW If we can trace any of the surviving monks via a locator spell, we can get them to hold the structure on… BUFFY Dawn! Buffy runs to the front of the house as she hears the door close XANDER Just me BUFFY Have you seen Dawn? XANDER Should I have? BUFFY She’s been missing for two days XANDER What, why, what’s going on? BUFFY Spike can you…I just can’t Buffy walks away XANDER Okay, now tell me what this is all about? SPIKE Little bit’s gonna die XANDER Buffy’s that mad? SPIKE No. Listen to what I say (sincere) Dawn is going to be dead if we don’t find her XANDER Why? Vampires? Dawn can take them SPIKE (sigh) She’s still the key, Dawns still the key and the key’s expiring. XANDER No SPIKE Yes! XANDER No, why…why didn’t I know about this? It’s been three days why did nobody tell me! SPIKE We were kinda busy lookin’ for ‘er XANDER So busy that you couldn’t push a few buttons and call me? Spike looks at Buffy as Xander has him pinned against the door SPIKE She’s in charge Xander looks at Buffy hard and shakes his head before storming out of the door BUFFY Way to back me up Spike SPIKE Didn’t realise that’s what I was here for BUFFY So what are you here for? SPIKE What? BUFFY Tell me, why are you still here? You’re only useful to me when the sun goes down SPIKE (evidently hurt) Useful? As your bleedin’ partner I didn’t realise I needed to have a specific purpose but then I must’ve forgot about the rules in t he wonderful world of Buffy. If you don’t serve a purpose, you’re not worth the time (pause) That what Xander’s thinking right now? BUFFY Get out SPIKE Buffy… BUFFY Get. Out. (through teeth) This is over Spike. Over. Spike looks at Buffy completely shaken, she means it. He turns around and walks away, Willow looks on nervously. CUT TO. EXT – SUNNYDALE STREET – NIGHT Xander angrily turns a corner he bumps into Spike as he turns. XANDER If Buffy sent you after me then save it (pause) Have you been crying? SPIKE Buffy didn’t send me too you, just sent me away XANDER She broke up with you? SPIKE Seems to be the way XANDER I get she’s upset it’s just, it’s Dawn you know? SPIKE I know XANDER This sounds silly but I don’t care if she’s six years my junior she’s one of my best friends SPIKE Talkin’ to me about age gaps mate XANDER Sorry I’m sure once thing’s calm down then she’ll, you know, calm down CUT TO. RJ Sure, am I going to get her in trouble? BUFFY You’re wasting my time (pause) On a scale of one to gonna die, you’re pushing the scales. Xander is struck down as Dawn swings a trash can at him and runs off into the night, the rain begins to fall heavily CUT TO. INT – SUMMERS HOME – NIGHT Kennedy walks through the back door, Willow is sat at the table KENNEDY Hey WILLOW (reading a book) Hey Kennedy continues walking and heads up the stairs CUT TO. INT – MAGIC SHOP – NIGHT Andrew is looking through a mass pile of books and he looks up as if he’s found something. CUT TO. EXT – SUNNYDALE STREET – NIGHT Buffy is searching through the rain as she bumps into Spike BUFFY Spike! He doesn’t say anything BUFFY Spike? He walks past her looking completely stunned, she notices the “breath” from the cold, her eyes widen in shock BUFFY Dawn! Buffy chases Spike and blocks him off BUFFY Dawn done this to you didn’t she? INT – KENNEDY AND WILLOWS ROOM – NIGHT Kennedy is packing her things into a bag as Willow walks in WILLOW What’s going on? KENNEDY Do the math Willow WILLOW You’ve got a lot of laundry? Kennedy throws a cold stare WILLOW You’re leaving me? KENNEDY That depends WILLOW I don’t understand KENNEDY (almost laughing) You never do! It’s always “not now Kennedy” and “it’s a scooby thing” I’m always on the outside and I thought it was your friends pushing me out but it’s not (pause) I’m sorry I can’t be Tara, really I am but I never will be and if you can’t accept that then we can’t be together WILLOW B-but I can accept that, I know you’re not her, Kennedy what is this? (beat) Is this about tonight because I kind of think Dawn wins this one KENNEDY It’s before tonight! It’s been months, all summer and now. You don’t notice I exist unless it’s something to do with slaying. I’m one of the only slayer’s left as of next week and the only reason I’m not leaving is because of you (pause) I’m leaving somewhere unguarded to be with you WILLOW I’m sorry I didn’t know I’d been so…I’ll try harder really I will KENNEDY I don’t want to leave you Willow WILLOW (tearful) Then don’t! (looks to the ground then straight in Willow’s eyes) Tell me by Christmas if you love me and want me to be here, then I’ll stay Willow looks in silence and shock as the door slams shut downstairs KENNEDY Go tell Buffy the news WILLOW Kennedy… KENNEDY It will help Dawn Willow gives a half smile, shocked and confused she dashes downstairs where Giles has already cornered them and Andrew is squeezing the life out of Dawn WILLOW Hey you’re all wet and muddy (trying to be cheerful) Did you join the mud wrestling society? DAWN No XANDER Willow are you okay? WILLOW I…I’m fine Xander looks at her not so sure BUFFY Is Spike here? ANDREW He came by earlier for like a minute then he left with like a big bag of laundry or something BUFFY (Desperate) What? I have to find him GILES Buffy I’m afraid we have more pressing matters on our hands BUFFY What? GILES It is true that none of the monks are alive, but there is one way to guarantee Dawn’s survival, one person who can help us in anyway BUFFY Name it GILES We have to bring Glory back END

Kennedy gets trashed by no less than Willow who has to hear it from Giles. Spike gets trashed by Buffy who throws him out. Typical Buffy also doesn't let Xander in. Dawn doesn't know her powers when she slugs Buffy and when she starts Spike's heart beating. I get an impression in the middle of this ep that vices and wild behavior improve Dawn's condition. The rash returns only when she calms down. You know it would be Xander who would look at Joyce's grave for Dawn, then use the right words. Bringing Glory back to face Dawn -- giving Dawn a chance to face Glory -- isn't exactly original. This premise is. Keep it going.
