Buffy steps through the door
BUFFY

GILES

ANDREW
Hey Buffy have you actually looked anywhere besides the magic box and home?
BUFFY
Where else would she be?
CUT TO.
EXT – RJ’s HOUSE – NIGHT
RJ opens the door to see Buffy and Giles stood in the doorway
RJ
I didn’t do it?
BUFFY
Where’s Dawn?
RJ
I haven’t soon her for hours
BUFFY
Hours?
GILES
She’s been here?
RJ
Sure, am I going to get her in trouble?
BUFFY
You’re wasting my time
(pause)

RJ
Chill, she was here about three hours ago, drunk.
GILES

We have to find her, do you know where she went?

INT – BIKER BAR – NIGHT
Xander and Spike walk in and sit at the bar.
XANDER
Hey um, this is kinda a stupid question
BARMAN
Then don’t ask it
XANDER
No but I have too. Have there been any young girls in here?
BARMAN

No, no! Not like that, she’s my friends sister and she’s run away
BARMAN
Some girl went out back to the tattoo house, been in there ten minutes
SPIKE/XANDER
Tattoo!
CUT TO.
INT – BIKER BAR – NIGHT
Xander and Spike burst through the door and tear the artist away from the girl. It’s not Dawn.
XANDER
Just checking that the needle is clean, continue.
Both back off embarrassed before bumping straight into Dawn.
DAWN
Xander!
XANDER
Dawn, wow you’re certainly good at this hiding thing
DAWN
Go away
SPIKE
Don’t think so niblet, you’re coming with me
Spike grabs Dawn by her bare arm and falls back grasping his chest as she pulls away. Scared Dawn runs.
XANDER
Are you okay?
SPIKE
Find her!
Xander follows Dawn, Spike holds his chest as his heart beats.
EXT – CLUB – NIGHT
XANDER
Dawn!
Xander is struck down as Dawn swings a trash can at him and runs off into the night, the rain begins to fall heavily

INT – SUMMERS HOME – NIGHT
Kennedy walks through the back door, Willow is sat at the table
KENNEDY

WILLOW
(reading a book)

Kennedy continues walking and heads up the stairs
CUT TO.
INT – MAGIC SHOP – NIGHT
Andrew is looking through a mass pile of books and he looks up as if he’s found something.
CUT TO.
EXT – SUNNYDALE STREET – NIGHT
Buffy is searching through the rain as she bumps into Spike
BUFFY
Spike!
He doesn’t say anything
BUFFY
Spike?
He walks past her looking completely stunned, she notices the “breath” from the cold, her eyes widen in shock
BUFFY
Dawn!
Buffy chases Spike and blocks him off
BUFFY
Dawn done this to you didn’t she?
SPIKE
I…
BUFFY
Where is she?
SPIKE
What?
BUFFY
You’ve seen her! Where is she?
SPIKE
(Confused and monotone)
Nine bridges bar, corner of East and Madison
Buffy runs off leaving Spike in the rain.
CUT TO.
INT – SUMMERS HOUSE – NIGHT
Andrew bursts through the door and sees Willow and Giles sat at the kitchen counter
ANDREW
Guys I found something!
WILLOW
Something important?
ANDREW
No Willow I ran in the rain to show you paint by numbers
WILLOW
Just checking
Kennedy enters the room
KENNEDY
What’s going on?
GILES
Andrew thinks he might’ve found something
KENNEDY
Something from a comic?
WILLOW
Kennedy!
Kennedy rolls her eyes, Giles and Andrew (who both laughed at the joke a bit) spot the look on his face
GILES
Is everything alright with the two of you?
WILLOW
Why wouldn’t it be?
ANDREW
Cause you keep being a mega harsh mean mama!
WILLOW
What? No, I just…It’s Kennedy she knows how it works
GILES
Does she?
WILLOW
(ignoring)
What did you find?
ANDREW
Oh, this…
Andrew lays the book out in front of them and smiles proudly, they look at each other in complete horror.
CUT TO.
EXT – BIKER BAR – NIGHT
Buffy arrives at the bar and notices the smashed glasses and tables
BUFFY
It’s a Buffy bar
CUT TO.
EXT – GRAVEYARD – NIGHT
XANDER
Hey there little girl, bit late to be in the dark all on your own
Dawn is crouched down at Joyce’s grave. The rain drowning her tears
DAWN
That’s all that’s left
XANDER
No it’s not
DAWN
Pretty soon, that’s me I’ll just be a headstone and a memory
XANDER
We’re going to stop this Dawn, we always do
DAWN
Xander even you know that we can’t mess with life and death, not without consequences
XANDER
Then we can have consequences, I won’t let anything happen to my Dawnie
DAWN
(laughs a little)

Dawn falls into Xanders arms and begins crying
DAWN

Buffy slowly walks up behind them, spotting where they are. She collapses to the ground and throws her arms around Dawn, crying with her as Xander holds them close together. All the time the rain continues to fall.
END OF PART THREE
EXT – SUMMERS HOUSE – NIGHT
Spike is staring up at the window, shaking from the cold. He shakes his as he walks off into the night, bag flung over his shoulder.
CUT TO.
INT – KENNEDY AND WILLOWS ROOM – NIGHT
Kennedy is packing her things into a bag as Willow walks in
WILLOW
What’s going on?
KENNEDY
Do the math Willow
WILLOW
You’ve got a lot of laundry?
Kennedy throws a cold stare
WILLOW
You’re leaving me?
KENNEDY
That depends
WILLOW
I don’t understand
KENNEDY
(almost laughing)
You never do! It’s always “not now Kennedy” and “it’s a scooby thing” I’m always on the outside and I thought it was your friends pushing me out but it’s not
(pause)
I’m sorry I can’t be Tara, really I am but I never will be and if you can’t accept that then we can’t be together
WILLOW
B-but I can accept that, I know you’re not her, Kennedy what is this?
(beat)
Is this about tonight because I kind of think Dawn wins this one
KENNEDY
It’s before tonight! It’s been months, all summer and now. You don’t notice I exist unless it’s something to do with slaying. I’m one of the only slayer’s left as of next week and the only reason I’m not leaving is because of you
(pause)
I’m leaving somewhere unguarded to be with you
WILLOW
I’m sorry I didn’t know I’d been so…I’ll try harder really I will
KENNEDY
I don’t want to leave you Willow
WILLOW
(tearful)

KENNEDY

(looks to the ground then straight in Willow’s eyes)
Tell me by Christmas if you love me and want me to be here, then I’ll stay
Willow looks in silence and shock as the door slams shut downstairs
KENNEDY
Go tell Buffy the news
WILLOW

KENNEDY
It will help Dawn
Willow gives a half smile, shocked and confused she dashes downstairs where Giles has already cornered them and Andrew is squeezing the life out of Dawn
WILLOW
Hey you’re all wet and muddy
(trying to be cheerful)
Did you join the mud wrestling society?
DAWN

XANDER
Willow are you okay?
WILLOW
I…I’m fine
Xander looks at her not so sure
BUFFY
Is Spike here?
ANDREW
He came by earlier for like a minute then he left with like a big bag of laundry or something
BUFFY
(Desperate)
What? I have to find him
GILES
Buffy I’m afraid we have more pressing matters on our hands
BUFFY

GILES
It is true that none of the monks are alive, but there is one way to guarantee Dawn’s survival, one person who can help us in anyway
BUFFY
