Subject: A few quotes about France, Iraq, US, etc.

"Power corrupts, but so does weakness. And absolute weakness corrupts absolutely. We are now living through the most critical watershed of the postwar period, with enormous moral and strategic issues at stake, and the only answer many Europeans offer is to constrain and contain American power. So by default they end up on the side of Saddam, in an intellectually corrupt position." Josef Joffe, editor Die Zeit

"As far as I'm concerned, war always means failure" Jacques Chirac, President of France

"As far as France is concerned, you're right." Rush Limbaugh

"The last time the French asked for 'more proof' it came marching into Paris under a German flag." David Letterman

"If Europe were to apply as much pressure on Saddam Hussein as (it) does on the United States and Britain, I think we could prevent war." Elie Wiesel

"Those unconvinced by the existing evidence [against Iraq] will be convinced by nothing less than their actual use against our military or civilians. To hell with those people." Bill Whittle

[> For a further 10 points, which of the above actually served their country's armed forces in a war, as opposed to following the heroic career of journalism. [> [> Chris, your statement "It's sad how the most macho-mouthing people never spent time in a foxhole," is claiming facts not in evidence. That is pure conjecture on your part. Many who do support military action against Iraq and other regimes in action to deal with Islamofascist militant terrorist threats did serve in the military. I served in full time active duty in the military. I do not think that it is only those who did serve who know when it is time for war or peace. Many who demonize the US never spent time in a fox hole and there are also some who did serve in uniform. -- William, 22:57:47 03/10/03 Mon (cache-rl02.proxy.aol.com/152.163.189.98)

[> And now, for 50 points, how much of your complaints could justly be turned back on you? Since when is someone in this country required to be in the military or gov't in order to weigh in publicly on issues? It certainly doesn't stop Whinocrats. -- Spock, 11:03:31 03/14/03 Fri (user-vc8fm1s.biz.mindspring.com/216.135.216.60)

[> War Without France -- Jack Atherton, 16:02:38 04/27/03 Sun (66-214-222-93.rno-cres.charterpipeline.net/66.214.222.93)

The war went more smoothly without France. During the Gulf War France routinely leaked sensitive information to Iraq. This time they had no opportunity! Too bad we can't keep them out of the UN.
