I have to say that I really like the Romantics, especially this idea that things are sweeter because they are not permanent. I remember Dr. Jackson saying something in class about how Carpe Diem literally means "pluck" the day. I like that idea a lot--every moment is like a flower, which, when we pluck it and smell its sweet fragrance, dies. Yet would we give up the enjoyment of the sensation the scent of the flower gives us merely because we know it will pass away? No, for its passing only makes its momentary fragrance more lovely.
