Dr. Jackson said a few days ago that "responsibility" the way we have been using it, could be exchanged for "love" without any loss to the meaning. Then today he said that Humans love responsibility, and loving responsibility we embrace suffering.

To build on your point: perhaps suffering is an intrinsic part of love. I think, actually, that we almost need to suffer in order to love, in order to actually care for the people around us.

Kind of like a mother or father, each of whom embraces a lot of difficulty in mothering her child...I don't think we all need to become maternal figures, but...

I think the highest form of love we've seen this semester - in Gregor and Don Quixote, or the antitheses, Jean Baptiste and the Underground Man - the greatest love between humans appears to be a love through sacrifice.
