Just for the record the hunger strikers were all imprisoned IRA terrorists/freedom fighters (some for murder) and they were striking for the right to be treated as political prisoners. Although the ones who died did so by their own hand, the British government were widely blamed for not resolving the crisis before they died. The deaths of the hunger strikers fuelled the republican movement not least by encouraging Irish people overseas to fund the IRA. Imagine what it would have been like if the British had hung any of those convicted of murder?

Caro.

PS I do not actually approve of the Death Penalty in any case but the practicalities are worth considering. And before anyone asks I don't like abortion either but accept there are cases where it may be justified. So I'm pro-life for adults, children and foetuses.
