Subject: INFO ABOUT BOTTLE TREES from AUSTRALIA

Hi Folks at USADeepsouth
I am from Australia - in the south actually, Anyway I came across your stories about bottle trees and I was very excited. I remember seeing a bottle tree in the Movie RAY in his childhood house's front yard and thought it was pretty cool. Then I came across this site recently and decided to make one of my own. I have begun gathering bottles already and have good tree limb/bough to put them on. But I have a few queries as I do not want to make any mistakes.
Can I paint plain glass bottles with glass paint or is this "cheating"?? Do the bottles have to be actual bottles..will glass vases or jars be OK to use? Are plastic bottle acceptable? Should the opening and neck definitely be smaller than the body of the bottle?
If one breaks..how do I gather up the bad spirits that escape??? Would a sage smudge stick do the trick???
I have been decorating trees in my yard for years now..mainly with plastic and pearly beads hanging in strands, and china ornaments..but the bottles will be another lovely addition.

Thanks

Debbie From Victoria, Australia
