Subject: Erin and Hank

In the episode The Celebration, Erin tells Mary Ellen that Marcia Woolery isn't going to marry the reverend Hank, but that she is. I wonder why the writers never had a relationship with Erin and Hank? Seems odd to me to start a possible relationship and then not do anything about it.
