  • Is he really alone most of the time? It seems to me that for the average single person, John gets around. He's had several love affairs, one-night stands, close friends of the same persuasion and for all we know 'a guy in every port'! He's very eligible, desirable and makes it known he's available. He is also a rakish flirt and knows how to make the first move. As readers, we are only now getting to glimpse the private life of Lord John. We know nothing of his personal life between now and moving to the Colonies.We feel for him because he has also experienced the most painful aspects of loving --unrequited love and the death of a lover.
