• I think she's referrring to John's first time being the bottom to Percy's top. I absolutely loved it and I want to know more damn it! • A. Of course, we are all going to vote positive, hee hee, we all love John here and want him to have whatever makes him happy. It doesn't hurt that I find these scenes titillating myself, this was my first exposure to gay erotic fiction.   • I think the same could be said of any of the sex scenes in the OUTLANDER books as well. I get the distinct impression that Diana doesn't believe in showing "sex for the sake of having sex". This was my first exposure to gay erotic fiction as well, and while it's not my thing personally, I agree, what matters is what the *characters* want. I think it's quite revealing that John prefers to be the dominant sexual partner. It reminds me, oddly enough, of Jamie ("If there's flinging and ravishing to be done, I'll be the one to do it" etc) and I found it surprising, somehow, coming from a man of LJ's slight stature. • At first, I thought it must be the scene with the whore in the prison courtyard. I'm still not sure I've visualized it quite right, but she was standing over a grate with a prisoner diddling her or something? I was pretty grossed out by that!   • I believe she was clinging to the bars of a "window" imagine a fly on a wall....there were openings in the walls for light and air, and of course, being a prison, there were bars over them. • The dissenting voice! I do love John also, he's a wonderful character written with a great deal of humor, but I find the sex scenes leave me somewhere between B and C. • I'd go with C - happy as I was for John it took a bit for my eyebrows to descend from my hairline after reading his first full beastly encounter with Percy. • i thought it was same passage as stillcleaning mentions above. for me definately A. i think it is another way to delve deeper into LJ's character and that is really interesting. • I tend to think that DG wasn't necessarily focusing on any one scene, but "Finally" comes to mind for me, since it was the most detailed, and because it was an important scene for John. I am definitely an "A" girl; Hetero love/sex scenes can be easily found in books, films, etc, but my exposure to homosexual love scenes has been almost non-existent, (Brokeback Mountain comes to mind as an excellent example). I am sure that they're out there, but I never really looked. I am intrigued with learning more about how men make love, and I still see Diana as pretty courageous in exploring this.   • Oh Teddie, your right, I forgot about Brokeback Mountain. After I saw the movie, I had to run right out and find the book so that I could read what was going on inside their heads. I, very uncharacteristically for me (I am pretty darn cheap) paid $9.95 for a 55 page paperback book because I couldn't find the collection of short stories it was included in and I couldn't wait.         • I liked reading the original words of the author. It is very well-written, but short...a slim 55 pages in length! Mine is a sturdy-ish softcover with front and end flaps, with a handsome photo of Heath and Jake on the cover.           • You can also find it in a collection of short stories (it's called Close Range) that is a much better buy if you can find it. You might like Annie Proulx other work, The Shipping News and Postcards (there are more but these are my two favorites!). Shipping News has also been made into a film.
