Subject: I can see how it happened however- John was young, traumatized, then bundled off to Aberdeen. By the time he came home he would have been a different person, Hal as well. Trust issued on John's part probably also had a role, since he so highly resented being sent away.
In reply to: Jane 's message, "I think it was scary, the Duchess showing up all alone to confront her husband's killer, with all her "evidence" right there for him to take. It was foolish and reckless. Even with a gun she could have been overpowered and killed if he'd actually shown up. I also think it was terrible of John, not telling Hal all those years that their father had been murdered. Hal had a right to have known that at least. I can't imagine why John wouldn't have. I guess it was important to the plot, I feel it wasn't like him at all." on 06:22:26 11/09/07 Fri

  • Well, John was sent to Aberden directly afterward. WE know he was home again by 16 as he was with Hal in the Highlands. Then after Hector's death and John's return to London he got his commission but went through his 'wild oats' phase and was sent to Ardsmuir. All this time he's been resentful of being kept in the dark by Hal and Benedicta and the whole matter was simply not discussed among them. It's the elephant in the corner. Families do that.
