Subject: Yea, Oleander, go for it. I just finished, and, as usual, my intention to read slowly and carefully was forgotten and I am now reeling. I need time to ponder. It changed the way I see Lord John a lot. He's much more complex than I thought. His acceptance of, and competance at, violent situations was something I hadn't really thought of before. Yes, I knew he was a soldier, but this book described what that really means so well even I could follow it. And reading the scenes with his mother, the Countess, I kept wondering, is she an honorary MacKenzie? I love how DG portrays most of her women as strong, competant, capable, even given the constraints society places on them. Looking forward to good discussions with you folks.
