I saw it as "bragging" about his abilities in bed with other men. To think that he could do to/for Jamie what one woman (Claire) can do for Jamie. Some reasons: His efforts to regain his father's honor, Percy's betrayal and John's involvement as a witness, Geneva's death,, and the general situation of the Dunsanys, and his recovery from his battle wounds. Add in that he is coming to James for help, that he is still totally in lust and love with James, combined with James' expression of disgust with men loving men! It was also completely out of character to inform James exactly how John could make him feel in bed. John was offended that Jamie didn't believe a man could really love another man. He was hurt and put on the defensive. John then said something he almost instantly regretted, it only made him feel worse when he'd realized that Jamie had first hand experience at being made to feel mastered and unclean. John's realization that he could never unsay what he'd said made him act the way that he did. We all know that Jamie has the grace and understanding to forgive John.   - I don't think it is in the book. Personally I don't think LJG could have guessed the reason for Jamie's reacting so strongly. It's enough that he *did* react that way, with a violent, almost murderous rage that will certainly keep LJG from making such remarks to him again.
