when Nextel became the title sponsor of nascar I said it was a dumb idea and that Nextel probably wouldn't even exist by the end of the 10 year contract. That prediction was made in the Truro Daily News. As we all know, Nextel is now Sprint.... so that came true. I also said at the same time that Nextel would not survive to the end of the 10 year deal... and now

Sprint: 'Business as usual' after CEO steps down: Sprint pledged to continue business as usual in its sponsorship of the Nextel Cup (soon to be Sprint Cup) Series following the immediate resignation of Sprint Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Gary Forsee. Forsee had been CEO of Sprint in 2003 and was named the leader of Sprint Nextel when their merger was complete in 2005. Chief Financial Officer Paul Saleh, who was the Nextel CFO prior to the merger, is the acting CEO. Sprint is doing an external search to find a new CEO

The story behind the hat. A friend of mine works for a local Marathon gas & oil supplier and he was helping me do some work at the football field. He had one of those hats on. I asked him if he could get me one of them for you and he told me the owner of the company had just returned from a big regional meeting and had picked up 4 of them. He gave 2 of them to him and he gave me one...FREE!!!! the best kind! I believe Kyle had on a hat very much like it on Sunday. I haven't sent out the cans & cars yet, but will this week. I have been looking for the right packaging for the cans and found it.

Did you send that package with the cars yet??

Al, I am not home for the next week or so. I don't know if your package arrive dyet or not. will let you know when I get home.

Last Friday we were a dog short for the short relay part of the show, I I let Sheba run it. she did awesome. On Thursday CBC Television will be at the show to film us for a program that runs nationally. The club president and I sat down and talked last night because the border collie I am running in the show makes a lot of mistakes. He's young and not well trained yet. After that conversation a man and another lady in the group sat down with me and made a decision... Sheba is going to run in the show that day. We have one peice of equipment that would be very very difficult... it is a 10 foot A-frame with a tunnel over it. the dog runs up the A frame INSIDE the tunnel. Sheba has never even been out on this course, much less inside that particular tunnel so we worked out a way for her to miss the tunnel and continue the course. I will NOT allow her to do that tunnel because I will not let her get hurt. But even though she has never practiced this course, and hasn't run a course in over a year, I said to the club president that have absolute confidence that she will run it perfectly. She said, "Well, yeah. Its Sheba... slow and perfect. No problem." I think she'll run it pretty fast with 21 less pounds on her. I'll let you know. Someone aske dme if I was disappointed that Wizard won't be in the show... I said, "Not at all... Sheba is doing it with me."

While I agree that the points you make should be the cornerstone for compliance to public assistance, unfortunately the cost and policing of this idea would probably be cost prohibitive. That is of course unless you dont mind the government raising your taxes to initialize and run that kind of program(s).

Which leads to the larger question, "Just where is the justice"?

I fully believe what he is saying. I also believe that if a family/woman is on welfare, the government should disallow any support for children born while on assistance. It should be mandatory to go on birth control while receiving any gov. assistance.

Message from a hard working Canadian

I work in the oil fields., they pay me. I pay my taxes and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit. In order to earn that pay cheque, as I work on a rig site on a Fort Mac construction project, I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.

What I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test. Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare cheque because I have to pass one to earn it for them...?? Please understand - I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet.

I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass drinking beer and smoking dope. Could you imagine how much money the provinces would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance cheque...?

just find the link to this...

ROCKINGHAM, N.C. -- In the beginning, it looked an awful lot like a funeral.

In the narrow strip of infield grass at the North Carolina Speedway there was a tent covering neatly lined rows of folding chairs, surrounded by hundreds of local residents who barely talked above a whisper. There was even a bluegrass quintet playing "Will The Circle Be Unbroken."

North Carolina

Ryan McGee

Nine registered bidders representing five states participated in Tuesday's auction.

Yes, there was a somber mood in the overcast air. The 42-year-old racetrack known as The Rock was being auctioned off to the highest bidder and these folks had stopped by to pay their respects.

"Then," one local observed, "A celebration broke out."

After roughly 30 minutes of bidding just north of Rockingham, former racer and driving school owner Andy Hillenburg walked away with the deed to a 1-mile oval, 244 acres, and miscellaneous support buildings for a bargain-basement price of $4.4 million ($4 million plus fees, taxes, etc.).

Hillenburg hadn't much cared for the title of savior, but thanks to a grass-roots publicity push, he'd had no choice. Ever since the old track had been put on the auction block earlier this summer, rumors had swirled about who would snatch it up and what they would do it with it. Truthfully, no one had a clue. But as the Oct. 2 auction date drew closer, it was Hillenburg's name that kept coming up and quickly became the sentimental favorite in the Rockingham community. Why? Because his intentions were purely racing related. No condos, no wrecking balls, no "For Sale" signs, just race cars.

But as the clock ticked toward Tuesday's 1 p.m. auction time, the crowd was becoming nervous, murmuring speculation over each and every person in attendance that fit the description of a potential buyer.

In all, there were nine registered bidders representing five states. In addition to Hillenburg, there was a real estate firm, a scrap metal dealer, and five various companies listed under the anonymity of LLC's.

"We knew that most of those were members of the racing community being represented by other people," said William Bone, president of National Auction Group, the company responsible for selling off the track. "About 15 minutes before the auction began we went over the list of bidders with [track owner] Bruton Smith and he was quick to recognize that the names on the list were all tied to NASCAR team owners in some way. He was very happy about that. He wanted it to retain some sort of racing identity."

Meanwhile, Hillenburg himself was pacing the grounds. "I don't know if I have the words to describe how I feel right now," he said as he headed to his seat. "I think we have some late dark horses rolling in here."

The dark horse of the day was the one racing juggernaut that didn't bother with an assumed name: Richard Childress Racing. As late as three weeks ago, Childress hadn't even known that the track where he's clinched his milestone 1994 Winston Cup championship was being sold. Since learning about the auction from a Rockingham native, he'd quietly investigated the possibility of utilizing The Rock as a testing facility. When RCR vice president Bill Patterson strolled into the tent just a few moments before the proceedings began, those who recognized him were left slack-jawed.

Once the proceedings began, Patterson kicked things off with a $2 million bid that immediately eliminated all parties with non-racing intentions. Hillenburg countered, his right knee bouncing nervously. For the next 10 minutes the Childress party chatted with their boss via cell phone, the crowd of locals not yet realizing who was running neck-and-neck with their guy. As the tension built, the residents of Rockingham began to do something that is rarely seen at real estate auctions. They started cheering. Yet another race was on at The Rock and they were cheering for their favorite driver.

"That's the guy that was in paper this morning."

"That's Andy Hillenburg, the guy who says he'll keep racing here."

"C'mon Andy!"

Then curiously, before entering his final bid of $4 million, Hillenburg turned to look over his shoulder at a handful of Rockingham city officials. Not until mayor Gene McLaurin gave him a "go ahead" nod did the speedway savior finally nod to the auctioneer and enter the bid.

All eyes turned to Patterson, who politely shook his head to say "we're out."

And so the gavel fell and the crowd erupted. They collapsed on poor Hillenburg, who wasn't allowed to leave his seat for more than 10 minutes. As the mayor pulled a "City of Rockingham" baseball cap onto the new track owner's head, the driver-turned-businessman-turned-owner of The Rock promised a major racing event in 2008, the track's first since NASCAR abandoned it in 2004.

"I can't tell you what series it will be," he said with a wink, "because I'm a former ARCA champion."

For the first time in three and half years there was a celebration in the infield at the North Carolina Speedway and next summer there will be the sounds of a full field of race cars.

"We've got a happy seller, a happy buyer, and a happy town," Bone said with a relieved smile. "In the auction business we call that a good day."

Thats where I saw my first race. Maybe when all these cookie cutter tracks fall by the wayside, and the people of North Carolina wise up and actually start going to races, we might see this track back on the circuit someday.... naw... makes too much sense.

big time.

The rules clearly state that cars MUST maintain pace car speed or cars behind may pass under caution.
Biffle did not maintain speed and Bowyer and Johnson both passed him. Was Biffle out of gas? Well lets see, he won his first race in more than a year and did not even complete the final cool down lap. He did not even do a burn out. he simply parked the car and walked to victory circle and said 'the guys wanted to push the car to victory circle.' bull. there was no gas in that car and the win should have gone to Bowyer. I think if they can prove that tank was empty then Bowyer should protest the win.
This is not the same as Stewart coasting across the finish line last year. this time the cars were behind the pace car and Biffle did not maintain pace car speed. period. Thats one rule that is very clear in the book.

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (Ticker) - Kyle Busch battled his way from the back of the pack after a pit-road violation to win a thrilling NASCAR Busch Yellow Transportation 300 at Kansas Speedway on Saturday, holding off Matt Kenseth's Ford by just .085 seconds.

But it was a penalty Saturday night that may have far-reaching implications for his crew chief and Busch's chances in the Nextel Cup "Chase for the Championship."

Hours after the race had ended, NASCAR officials announced they had confiscated the intake manifold on Busch's Chevrolet because it "did not meet NASCAR specifications."

Further penalties will be announced next week but it could adversely affect Busch's crew chief, Alan Gustafson, who is also the crew chief for Busch's Nextel Cup Chevrolet at Hendrick Motorsports.

Because an intake manifold violation is considered a major offense by NASCAR, Gustafson could be looking at a lengthy suspension, which would ban him from all NASCAR track activities in any series.

Stewart Could Face Penalty for Obscenity: #20-Tony Stewart could face his second points deduction this season for using vulgar language after telling a cameraman to "get the f-- away from me" during an ESPN2 broadcast shortly after the first Nextel Cup practice ended Saturday morning at Kansas Speedway. NASCAR officials requested a videotape of the exchange and said they were investigating the matter. A penalty could damage a bid for a third championship by Stewart, who will enter Sunday's Lifelock 400 trailing Jeff Gordon by two points in the Chase for the Nextel Cup standings. Stewart was docked 25 points and fined $25,000 for saying "bull--" in an ESPN interview after winning the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. He was fined $10,000 and placed on probation through Dec. 31 for skipping media obligations after finishing second at Phoenix International Raceway on April 21. ESPN broadcaster Dr. Jerry Punch apologized to viewers after Stewart's latest transgression. "It was an unfortunate incident," ESPN spokesman George McNeilly said. "The tape speaks for itself. In our view, the photographer was doing his job."(USA Today)(9-30-2007)

Did you watch the Busch race yesterday? Hamlin and Menard were racing hard with each other toward the end of the race, about 50 or so laps to go. Hamlin was in 6th and Menard was 5th. Hamlin could not get around Menard and got on his radio to his spotter and told him to talk to Menard's spotter and tell him to "Get out of my way, I have the faster car". I thought when two cars are racing for position you can do your best to keep the other guy behind you. I could see his point only if Menard was a lap or more down, but he was ahead of Hamlin and doing a damn fine job of staying there. Hamlin is an A$$ even in the Busch Series. The last paragraph in the article you posted the link to says it all, "I am the best there is and don't get in my way!"

I gotta cut about 40 words out but I think this is the basic column unless someone has a suggestion or two.

Sometimes you just need to stand up for yourself. We’ve all done it at one time or another so how can anyone be surprised when the otherwise mild-mannered Kyle Petty does the same thing?
Last week at Dover, Petty was a lap or two down and he was giving the leaders plenty of room to pass. He’d already moved out of the way for the first four cars in line and in his mirror he could see the fifth and sixth place cars of Denny Hamlin and Clint Bowyer coming up behind him. Everyone knows what happened next.
There are two schools of thought on the results of that little stunt. First, the younger fans think the old man needs to get out of the way and let the real winners race. I say ‘younger’ because most of the people I’ve seen take this approach are in their thirties or younger or has only become a NASCAR fan during the last ten years or so. There are exceptions but that’s pretty accurate. The old guys (and gals) who have been around the sport for a while invariably side with the old man. There are some young people who have jumped on the Kyle Petty bandwagon in this one however. But very few old timers seem to have sided with Hamlin.
Here’s the way it all played down: Hamlin came up behind Petty who admittedly was running a second or so off the pace. With Bowyer on his bumper, Hamlin decided not to wait for Petty to give way and he put the bumper to the 45 car. Whether he intended to put Petty into the wall, or just get him loose is irrelevant. What matters is that through sheer lack of patience and total disregard for anyone but himself, Hamlin took Petty out of the race, damaged Bowyer’s car and in the end could very well have sealed his own fate in the hunt for a championship. To make matters worse, in an interview afterwards, Hamlin said, “Petty needs to just get out of the way.”
More than anything else I think, it was that statement that caused even Petty-haters to jump to his defense. You see, there was a race going on. There is absolutely nothing in the rules that says anyone has to get out of the way for anyone else. But there most certainly is something in the rule book that says you cannot intentionally wreck someone.
The problem is not Denny Hamlin and Kyle Petty. The problem is twofold. First and foremost is the way the cars are built. Between May of 2000 and February, 2001, Adam Petty, Kenny Irwin, Tony Roper and Dale Earnhardt all died of pretty much the same injury: basilar skull fracture. In February or 2001 NASCAR began to take safety seriously. Maybe too seriously. The cars are incredibly safe now. Ricky Rudd’s broken shoulder is the most serious injury we’ve seen in a long time. The cars are so safe now that drivers forget that people have died in them. It is so easy to wreck someone now because the chances of hurting them are so slight as to be not worth considering. That’s a problem.
The second problem is respect. Some of these guys just don’t have the respect they need for the other drivers. There are 43 cars on the race track and while 12 are going for the championship there are 31 other agendas out there. The middle pack are pretty safe and they are racing for money and maybe an occasional win. But the bottom third are racing to stay in the top 35. Guys like Petty, Marlin, Nemechek and others need to stay in the top 35 or there is a real possibility that they might not be racing at all next year.
Everyone that qualifies for a race deserves to be in it and they most certainly do not deserve to be wrecked just because they don’t fit into the plans of someone else.
That wasn’t just Kyle Petty getting in the face of Denny Hamlin. It was every one of the old guys who still deserve some respect on the race track. Kyle wasn’t saying “Don’t ever wreck me again.” Petty simply said, “You show a little respect out there or someone is gonna come see you about it.”

Jeff Gordon: "I love Jacques, but that's not the right decision to make,"

Kyle Busch: "He's doing what? Holy cow, that's not good," You've got to start somewhere but the Cup Series at Talladega definitely isn't the place to start."

umm, yeah.... no brainer as far as I'm concerned. I don't understand nascar's thinking on this one. yes, he can drive a race car but he'd never even sat in a stock car until a month ago. A good COT test at talladega does not give him the experience necessary to run there. I absolutely believe he will be fine in stock cars but you just don't do that.

people who come to Canada and ask for political asylum or refugee status are immediately given social assistance, a living allowance (for rent), a health benifits card so they can see a doctor for free and a prescription card so any and all prescriptions are free. The social assistance they recieve is apparently a little more than $1,100 per month. their living allowance for rent is something like $800 per month.

Now then.... I worked every freakin day... 5 and 6 days a week at Tim Horton's from 1978 to 1995 when I lost my stomach and went on a permanent disability pension. My pension is $702 per month. And I have to pay for my prescriptions myself. Aside from $25 per week that I get for writing the nascar column for the newspaper, thats what I live on. If this start continues to be the trend for the future, the Canadian Government said its going to get a lot tougher for all Mexicans wishing to even vacation here. We dont have the financial means to support the number of illegals that the US has and we cannot let it start.

my buddy, Rick MacLeod races a supercharged 1999 Mustang at the Targa Newfoundland Tarmac Rally every year. Every year a kid named Jason comes out to meet him and every year MacLeod brings along an extra team jacket for him. This year Macleod had something else for him. he asked me to build a replica of his car for the kid. I took it a step further, without telling Rick, by making a custom box for the car as well. On the front of the box was Macleod's pictire beneath the window of the box and on the back was a large photo of the real car with plenty of room for Rick and his navigator to place their autographs.

wrote a rather nasty column entitled... well, just read it...

http://www.speedwaymedia.com/Articles/07/092507Baldeck.asp

then read his follow-up.
http://www.speedwaymedia.com/Articles/07/092707Baldeck.asp

then read the letter that I just wrote to him:

Sir:

Hi
After you wrote that column about Kyle Petty, I wrote a letter to you. I deleted it. Then I wrote another, and deleted it too. Then I decided to just wait and see what happens. There was no possible way anyone, even a staunch Denny Hamlin fan could possibly believe that Kyle Petty is anything less than he really is.
I knew without a doubt that, while you might not write a retraction, there would at least be a follow-up.
Thank you for doing that.
Was I angry when Petty swore on tv? No. Just go to a race and listen to his scanner sometime. He says himself that if he didn't have a temper he wouldn't go through so many employees. Was I angry when he broke his hand? I was upset because he was going to fall back in driver points but I was happy too... because he wasn't taking a blown engine sitting down. That means he still wants to be competitive every weekend. Was I upset that he reacted the way he did last Sunday? ABSOLUTELY NOT. I'd have been upset if he'd said it was a racing deal because it wasn't. Hamlin's crew chief had just been on the radio a few minutes earlier telling Hamlin to calm down. That wasn't an accident and it wasn't the first time. What Petty did was absolutely imperative. For two reasons. First, to show Hamlin that he wasn't freakin happy. And second, to show these snotty nosed kids that there are other people on the race track. Remember at Bristol or Martinsville when Robby Gordon wrecked Mike Skinner? Over the radio, Gordon said, and I quote, "I thought we needed a caution so I got us one." After that race, Richard Childress had a word with Gordon and that never happened again. Sometimes these young guys need to be taken out behind the woodshed and thats just what Kyle did.

Richard Petty told a story after Adam died. First, Adam had said to Richard, "I'm going to be rich someday. We have to decide what I'm going to do with the money." I think Richard suggested real estate. Adam said, "No. I mean, we have to decide how I'm going to help people with it." Then Adam went to a bank and asked to borrow a million dollars to start his camp. The banker asked him what he had for collateral. Adam said, "Nothing, but I'll give you all of my winnings until its paid back."
Let me tell you about the Pettys....

No matter how long Jeff Gordon and Tony Stewart drive race cars, they will never be as good as Richard Petty was. No one, even on their best day, will ever be the man that Kyle Petty is. And Adam Petty didn't just show up. He made a difference and you can see it every time you log onto www.victoryjunction.org.
Thank you for writing that second column. And I apologize for writing the two you will never see.

Rick,
Yes, Carlos Hathcock, AKA white feather, AKA Lang Trang (sp) was the storied first sniper to use the .50 caliber as a sniper rifle for the US armed forces. He was the man. But he did it in Vietnam. He usually used a regular Winchester 30.06 but is credited as the first to mount a scope on the M2. He went on to assist in the establishment of the Marine Scout and Sniper school in VA.

I'll stop now, if anyone wants more, google it or look it up on Wiki. Wiki has a pretty good bio on him.

I believe it was the Marine... Carlos Hathcock but I am not sure. anyway in Lebanon Marines at the airport were taking fire from more than a mile away. It was single round sniper fire. they knew where it was coming from but nobody could get close enough to do anything about it and they couldn't call in air power. So the story is, a Marine sniper put a scope on a 50 and took one shot. done deal. I think it was hathcock but I'm not sure. anyway that distance record stood for a long time. The 50 earned its keep in a lot of ways.

Question is, are you good enough to single shot in auto mode?

It is an incredibly huge dollar store. as big as a grocery store and I just about live there. So I was wandering through the store and in the section that has the plates, bowls, cups etc, there is a stack of really nice white plates that have really sharp black print on them of a village or some such thing. It looked good so I picked it up and, as I do with everything, I looked on the bottom... I shit you not, this is exactly what it said... white plate, big black letters

I'll bet when they signed with Evernham it cost them a whole lot more and they couldn't justify $20million a year for that and 4 or 5 million a year for official beer status.

"I know it's no big deal".... let me ask you a question.... if you were paying $15million to have your name on the side of a race car, how would you feel if that driver 'just let him pass to collect five points?'
In F-1 I can see it because in that sport, team cars are all sponsored by the same company. In NASCAR they aren't and that means each team should run independentyly and allowing a team mate to pass just to collect a higher finishing spot is slapping the sponsor in the face.
I'll tell you, I lost any respect that I had for Greg Biffle and if it really was team orders, for Jack Roush too.
Remember when Robby Gordon wrecked Mike Skinner at Bristol a few years ago. Over the radio the dumbass said, "I thought we needed a caution so I got us one." What Biffle did was no better. After that race Richard Childress took Gordon aside and had a word with him. Someone needs to have that same talk with Biffle and Roush.
What they did isn't racing. Its just wrong.

if I share it with you guys:

I got home last night. The car is in Woodstock, getting fixed,
its just something that three trips to Nfld running it hard did, or maybe
I over reved the motor and stretched something. At any rate, as always ,
I brought it back without a scratch. It was still a great trip, and
when I got to Marys Town, the young handicap kid Jason Nolan was waiting
for me, he always comes to meet us, he loves mustangs. He has a die
cast model car collection of 120 cars, of which 70 are mustangs. I was
standing in the car show, and the crowd parted, and there he was in his
chair looking at me. I pointed right at him and he started smiling and
moving back and forth excitedly. I walked over and bent down and held
his hand and said I have been looking for you. His mother said he has
been looking for you. I said I have something for you, and she said he
knows you do (as we always give him one of our shirts every year, a
different one). I said he doesn't know what I have for him this year. I
had Rick Dupuis replicate my car perfectly, and I presented Jason the
model, along with our regular uniform which we bring him every
year. The TV crew was there to cover it, the interviewer and even the
camera man was crying. It really made everyone realize just how lucky we
are to be able to walk, and talk, and live a normal life, which is the
purpose of Racing Against MS. I want to continue to raise money for
these handicapped kids, and I think it will be the new focus this
year. There was a 16 year old boy there with Cerebral Palsy, who was
permitted to drive a car, opening the race, and he told of how Easter
Seals changed his life. He had limited speech, as his throat muscles
don't work, but he really had everyone in tears while he spoke. They had
an auction for next years entry, which stopped at $9200 (I had won), and
when it didn't go higher, I stood up and said I will up my bid to $12,000
if you sell another one to my friend Afshin for $12,000, which they
agreed, making the total of the nights auction $50,000 for Easter Seals.
I have a huge pile of paperwork on my desk here, and have not yet
unloaded the RV. My cell phone isn't working, I will have to go get a
new one today some time.

Just what are your marketing people thinking? Have you guys taken a good look at Toyota's record in Cup? If you think for one minute that Gibbs is going to be any better than your marketing department needs their collective heads examined. If you move to a Toyota I will never buy another Mars product. And you'd best remember that NASCAR fans are the most brand-loyal fans in all of sports. And for the record, I think you were nuts for staying at the most incompetent Ford team too. I think Robert Yates might be leaving at a very opportune moment.
First Rudd is finished. Then they lose the 88.. or give it up, whatever. Now they lose the sponsorship to BOTH cars... Thats a problem you bring on yourself when you allow one company to sponsor both cars... with contracts that end at the same time.
I wonder how customers of a US firm like Mars will appreciate them moving to a Toyota-backed car.

There's enough stupid to go around in this case too.
Yates is stupid for having one company sponsor both cars and for having contracts that expire at the same time and I think Mars is stupid for moving to a Toyota, although in comparing competitivness, yates and Toyota are pretty much the same thing anyway.

A stressed out woman on a busy boulevard was tailgating a man. Suddenly, the light turned yellow, just in front of him. He did the right thing, stopping at the crosswalk, even though he could have beaten the red light by accelerating through the intersection.

The tailgating woman was furious and honked her horn, screaming in frustration as she missed her chance to get through the intersection, dropping her cell phone and makeup. As she was still in mid-rant, she heard a tap on her window and looked up into the face of a very serious police officer. The officer ordered her to exit her car with her hands up. He took her to the police station where she was searched, finger printed, photographed, and placed in a holding cell.

After a couple of hours, a police officer approached the cell and opened the door. She was escorted back to the booking desk where the arresting officer was waiting with her personal effects.

He said, "I'm very sorry for this mistake. You see, I pulled up behind your car while you were blowing your horn, flipping off the guy in front of you, and cussing a blue streak at him. I noticed the 'What Would Jesus Do' bumper sticker, the 'Choose Life' License plate holder, the 'Follow Me to Sunday-School' bumper Sticker, And the chrome-plated Christian fish emblem on the trunk, Naturally...I assumed you had stolen the car."

I finally heard from him last night. he was emailing me from a truckstop in Quebec. He blew his engine... all $70,000 worth on the second day of Targa. BUT BUT BUT he gave the car I built to the kid on day two. he said, "If that doesn't get on tv, something is really wrong because even the camerman was crying when that kid saw that car."

but Ken Squire has seen his better day. the same with Bob Jenkins. The last time I saw Ken Squire he was calling the Daytona 500 (from the pits I think) and he was slurring his words and made too many mistakes. Bob Jenkins WAS signed on to Speed for the Speed Report he seemed to be having an awful time getting his words out. Two shows later he's GONE.

Ned Jarrett never was comfortable in front of the camera but he hid it well.

Buddy Baker is a great personality but he's loving what he's doing. He likes his radio show and working as a spotter and mentor.

Aaand Dougherty(sp? ) At least he knows his MOOSE. He's been around racing long enough to be credible. Unlike that chick he sits with who doesnt know her as from a hole in the ground when it comes to racing. Her and Musberger geez what a pair. IMO.

I thought I would die laughing!

I was buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my Golden Retriever at Wal-Mart and was about to check out. A woman behind me asked if I had a dog? On impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, and that
I was starting the Purina Diet again. Although I probably shouldn't, because I'd ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms.

I told her that it was essentially a perfect diet and that the way that it works is to load your pants pockets with Purina nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry and that the food is nutritionally complete so I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in the line was by
now enthralled with my story.)

Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no; I stepped off a curb to sniff an Irish Setter's ass and a car hit us both.

I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack, he was laughing so hard!

Drivers May Test with New Teams at Atlanta: Dale Earnhardt, Jr. and J.J. Yeley both know they'll be with new teams next year, and both know where they're headed, but they can't escape their contracts until season's end. There's a possibility they could get a chance to at least test with their future teams in a few weeks, when there's an open trial at Atlanta, though a series of dominos would have to fall if that's to happen. Yeley hopes to test the #96 car that Tony Raines currently rides, which would allow his eventual replacement, Kyle Busch, to steer the Interstate Batteries Chevy, but in order for that to take place Earnhardt would have to be allowed to take Busch's seat in a Hendrick Motorsports machine. Whether that'll happen, however, remains in question. Dale Earnhardt, Inc. president Teresa Earnhardt has already said Regan Smith will test with Junior's current team at Atlanta, but hasn't yet released her stepson to test with Hendrick, so the whole equation may break down and leave the lame ducks with their soon-to-be defunct teams. "The biggest domino is if Teresa will let Dale Jr. go drive for Hendrick," Yeley said. "If that'll happen, I think you're going to see next year's lineup four months in advance, but that comes down to Teresa." (Concord Monitor)(9-16-2007)

Who, among us, believes Teresa will allow Junior to test a hendrick car before his contract with TEI is up?

Its actually quite easy. I bought a usb video transfer device at circuit city. The one I got is called the Dazzle DVC 100. It runs around $50. All you need is that and a DVD burner and your ready to go. The vdeo transfer thing has rca plugs on it that you hook up to the outputs on a vcr or camcorder. It came with a demo version of the editing software that does everything I need it to do. The Video on my site from Sunshine Speedway was my dad racing back in the early 80's. The tape was started to mess up so I bought the video thing and transfered it and some of my dads recent races onto a dvd for fathers day. It comes in handy for keeping tv shows too.

how can a driver have more points than the owner?

Owners get points just for attempting to qualify. driver's don't. So in theory,an owner should come out of a race with more points than the driver, no matter how the driver finishes. and yet Bobby Labonte is in 17th and Richard Petty is in 18th.
I don't get that one.

Kyle Petty the driver is in 38th because he missed 5 or 6 races but Kyle Petty the owner is in 34th because his car did not. so how can Bobby Labonte have more points than the King?

I still do not believe it will be the 88. That is one number that hendrick did not apply to get a patent for. I guess it could have been a spur of the moment thing but I still think it'll be the 81.
A couple of weeks ago Doug Yates was adament about not giving up a number that is so associated with RYR.. and he was talking about the 38. I would say the 88 is connected to the team than the 38 is... I mean they won a championship with the 88 and what have they won with the 38? One maybe, with Sadler???? I don't get this. Unless...

1: hendrick really didn't want the 38 in the first place
or
2: Doug Yates wants to bring back the 28.

If its 2, they'd best be careful about who they put in it. I am not really sure Kvapil belongs in that number.

In an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council was held in Paris on the 12th of September 2007, The following decision was taken:

"The WMSC has stripped Vodafone McLaren Mercedes of all constructors' points in the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championshiop and the team can score no points for the remainder of the season *.

"Furthermore, the team will pay a fine equal to 100 million dollar, less the FOM income lost as a result of the points deduction.

"However, due to the exceptional circumstances in which the FIA gave the team's drivers an immunity in return for providing evidence, there is no penalty in regards to drivers' points **.

"The WMSC will receive a full technical report on the 2008 McLaren car and will take a decision at its December 2007 meeting as to what sanction, if any, will be imposed on the team for the 2008 season."

The full reasons for this decision will be issued on the 14th September 2007.

* Points gained by other teams so far this season will not be affected.

** No McLaren representative will be allowed on the podium should a McLaren driver win any of the remaining races of the 2007 season.

beyond caring at this point. I applaud Jr trying to take care of his fans(tattoos) but how many tattoos, ARE there out there? I mean it's time these fans took a little bit of responsibility for their own actions. Explain that old 8 as a collectible, your age, your IQ.

The only number that should be tattooed on a body should be the number 3 anyway right? Idiots.

Just SHUT UP and RACE.

one of the numbers that Hendrick applied for a patent. and Yates said last week that he wasn't giving up the 38 just because somebody else wanted it. I can't picture him giving up the 88 now.... be nice if he did tho

I had my first stomach surgery on October 10, 1997. They took 2/3 of my stomach and it was pretty bad. In September 1998 I had this test done to see how the rest of my stomach was working. It wasn't. The first week of October my surgeon called me into his office and said, "I have some bad news. The rest of your stomach has to come out and we have to do it right away. Rick, This is going to be a lot more dangerous than the first one and your recovery is going to take a lot longer."

I said, "When do we do it?"

"October 17. This is a risky thing. You have to know the risks."

I just smiled and said "Lets do it."

he said, "No questions? Nothing?"

I said, "October 17. Evel Knievel's birthday. what can go wrong?"

"You're nuts."

I remember in about grade 6 or 7 I wrote to him and he sent me an autographed photo. took it to school and nobody believed he sent it. so the class decided to write one together and I shit you not, the class got a photo back, signed in about three weeks. The teacher kept it and my own got lost over the years. I love the guy.

He once wrote a poem. This is from my head so if you find it someplace some of the lines might be screwwed up.. its been 20 years or more.....

It seems that everywhere in the world I go,
No matter who or what I know,
The people they look, and most of them stare,
And I wonder if they really care.
To see this king with his golden crown,
Some of them smile but most of them frown.
We're all alike, oh yes we are,
We all have a dream on some far away star.
For me, when its over at the end of the day,
My men go to relax, while I go to pray.
For I know that tomorrow in some other place,
I'll have that jump againt to face.
each time I was hurt, they all said,
That guy's lucky, he's not dead.
And they were right, but every stitch on every scar,
Just brought me closer to my dream afar.
To be a man, to do my best,
To stand alone, is my only quest.

For you to do what I do is not right, but for me it's not wrong,
What I've been trying to say all along,
Is that it's got to be,
For just like you, I've got to be me.
Robert Craig Knievel

To be a man, to do my best,
To stand alone, is my only quest.

those are two of the best lines ever written by anyone. Robbie Knievel gets it right too often. Everything is so technical for him. 99% of the time he knows he's going to make it before he ever gets on the bike. Evel didn't. he did it all by the seat of his pants.
Robbie Knievel may be the best there is at cycle jumping, but his father invented it.
