Hi from Africa -- Liberté, 11:56:59 04/15/07 Sun
Hi Chasseurs, just checking in and saying hello and I miss you and wish I could have been at Jena again and wish I could be at Rivoli again and I am sorry about your tin cup HK. I am still out in the wilds of remote Africa with the Zulu kids, been a year and a half now! Bloody hell!
Beautiful place, difficult work, lovely people, no money, bloody great big spiders and snakes, hot weather, crap food, great singing!
avec amour

Marengo Report -- La Mort (Ace Super-reporter), 17:09:16 03/12/07 Mon
Thinking of Louis being a bit slow, he asked me ages ago to do some old event reports to fill the Xmas quiet season. So I send him the epic tale of Marengo - and he does not do anything with it. He will be beaten by his arch rival Artois' tabloid Le Chasseur at this rate.

9e greatest victory -- Blanc, 18:48:20 10/02/05 Sun
Mind you - it isn't Marengo, I just took part in Hasslach Jungingen, we thrashed the Austrian - 5000 French against 20 000 Austrians - and our unit took 2000 prisoners, the real thing happened at 11th of October - bad for most of you that you missed this bicentenial this week end, super Blanc will write an event report on that one.

'The Rising' -- La Mort, 12:17:08 09/18/05 Sun
Although it is not in our period, I would recommend the new Bollywood epic 'The Rising' for anyone who wants a light film to see. In terms of history it scores 0%. In terms of colour, gyrating bodies, marching regiments, exotic women, great music and dramatic over-acting it scores 100%. Also amusing to spot the historical and practical howlers - such as when the hero shoots himself to avoid capture (after potting four British officers in 10 seconds with a single Brown Bess at 500 yards). Pity his gun has no flint and the bassinet is open! Verdict: rivals 'The Adventures of Gerard' for being worst but most fun history film.

stuff for sale -- Liberté, 18:04:05 08/03/05 Wed
I am desperately fund-raising to go to Africa to live and work as a voluntary aid-worker with Zulu orphans in November. I am having to sell a lot of my Napoleonic books and even my beloved 'La Cantiniére' book (illustrated by Job). Also, my beautiful hurdy gurdy (as seen in The Duelist) is on ebay. If you may be interested in the books email me and I can send you a list.
I am not giving up being cantiniére of the 9eme and hope to see you again when I pop back to the UK from time to time.I still have the T shirt and shall wear it in Zululand. I will have email in Africa and would like to keep in touch with the Chasseurs when I am there...
I am also looking to go into Zimbabwe to assist but will eventually go to my work in KwaZulu Natal. Please keep in touch with me!

Good show -- Blanc, 16:09:45 07/03/05 Sun
Menon, you must be joking, at Caldiero - no fields to deploy - fighting street battles with parked cars, ok, it was no possible to do otherwise, but Plancenoit was one of the best big events I took place in the last 20 years.
Usually I hate big events, but this time it was cool, the first time ever I could hear a real thunder of muskets.
Also I have to compliment the unit, especially our new members and recruits, they did endure the harship in grand style, I was very pround to see our unit, despite of having a lot of in-experienced members to put up such a good show, we look quite good on the videos.

- I was serious. Three years ago plancenoit was a very great event. 200 good reenactors that fought hardly. Ok, you're right. The huge number of reenactors nearly made the battle as a real one, maybe the best results I've never seen in terms of quantity. I say it again, the organisation of the battle was bad. Perhaps not the organisation, but the way of commanding the french troops. There was the number for making a little ordre mixte (if they wanted to re-create a tactical organisation) or a feu de battaillon, like the Allies had done. As it is sad in Italy, "mi è rimasto l'amaro in bocca", which means I was very disappointed. This is the way I see the event. You, Blanc, have been taking part of events since I wasn't born yet, and you have got much more experience than me. Probably your opinions is more realistic than mine. See you soon (NT) -- Manon, 18:41:17 07/04/05 Mon
- Menon, The problem is when an event gets big, you cannot control the quality of the paritcipating groups any longer, so the bigger the worse, I cannot remember any big event that was great, big I mean 600 plus re - enactor. For that Plancenoit 2005 was the best big event I took part in all my hobby life. Let us see how we will do in Austerlitz. (NT) -- Blanc, 15:41:15 07/05/05 Tue
- Plancenoit -- Louis@T.C.I.., 18:08:39 06/30/05 Thu
So what did you think of the Plancenoit event?
