Dear Sir, I was most suprised, indeed let me say offended when i saw the title 'Un Contre Dix' displayed on the Italian arm of your website. To explain briefly, L'Incomparable had no title other than L'incomparable, being on account INCOMPARABLE is just about as amazingly good as it gets. The un contre dix motto was infact awarded to the 84e de ligne (spit) for killing some hapless peasants - not bayonet charging the cream of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and saving Old Boney's political Bacon. The error (continued in next post)

As we were saying... the error with Un Contre Dix is easily confused. When the 9e legere was disbanded its men went off and did something else. However, in 1820 they made a new 9e legere which had nowt to do with the old one. This regiment was amalgamated with the 84e de ligne later on in the century. With successful battle honours at a premium, the french decided that the INCOMPARABLE 9e legere's battle honours now belonged to the 84e, hence the 84e having the battle honour Marengo, even though it was absolutely no where near the place at the time. Is that clear chaps?
