Tryst's ear perked at the sound of something hollow skittering away through the leaves, but then it was too scattered a noise to be something as big as the girl was moving. Probably a squirrel or something.

"Serious, I've never seen one of you. You aren't a treefil-a thing like the grown ups talk about are you?" She set the quarter remaining apple down and looked up at the tree branch the girl had used to climb up there, then jumped and caught hold of the branch, swinging herself up. The thought that approaching a cornered who-knows-what might be dangerous never even crossed her mind. Swinging onto the branch, her head poked through the tangle of leaves and twigs that had sheilded the girl from sight. Only, there was no girl.

"Trinn, it got away." Her voice held a slightly saddened note, as though the thought depressed her. "Now I'll never know what she it was."
