Now this would be confusing enough, but what really got me going on this topic was when I learned last month about a website for the “United Universists.” According to this website, “Universists apply personal reason and experience to the fundamental questions of human existence, derive inspiration from the natural uncertainty of the human state, and deny the validity of revelation, faith and dogma.” They also had a link to a group called the “United Deist Community” who seek God thru Reason.
Will the “United Universists” become competition to the Unitarian Universalists? If so, is that good or bad? Most new religions, like most new businesses, fail. But what if their form of organization, which is highly dependent upon the internet, email chat groups, and “meetups” ...what if this succeeds?
Just so we have our facts and affiliations in order, you should know that the UUA belongs to the International Council of Unitarians, Universalists, and Unitarian Universalists, which also has affiliates in Canada, India, the Philippines, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Russia, Romania, Poland, Nigeria, Hungary, Great Britain, Germany, Finland, Denmark, Czech Republic, Australia, Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Latvia, Bolivia, Northern Ireland, France, Iceland, Indonesia, Japan, Pakistan, Kenya, and Norway.
