This Saturday (3-12) Red Line Raceway has offered to allow any Outlaw Top Sportsman car, driver and one crewman in the gate at no charge. VHT Staff will be on hand prepping the track. It is a test and tune day out there. No classes will be running. I want to announce latest Sponsor to come on board and support our class. Recently John Ferry of Ferry's Aluminum Cylinder Head and Block Repair came to me and let me know he wanted to do something for the Outlaw Top Sportsman Racer's. We talked about it and what he has committed to is basically $100.00 cash per race. The money may go to the fastest MPH of the race, maybe to the car that ran closest to the Index that night... and there are some other ideas on the table. It could be as late as race day when we announce how the money will be distributed, either way I'll let ya'll know what he decides. In response to some of the naysayers here in the past, I'm pretty sure it's never been a matter of me or Gaylen being able to "get it done". But, for all of you who doubted me or more importantly what Kelly told me... here is one of the photos I received today after Kelly called me to let me know they'll be ready for us! He told me the rebar is in place, they're pouring concrete tomorrow and they'll be racing this weekend. - I understand that having some details like this can make a difference sometimes, thanks for asking. ;-) At the Banquet last night I spoke to the fact that not all of the Sponsors have decided how best to spend their resources with us. Just like Terry mentioned, he has some really good ideas. He and I had a really good conversation this past Friday. Mike Brink will be sponsoring our points fund with a $2,000.00 contribution. Marty Chance will be providing us with $200.00 per race in the form of 2 $100.00 gift certificates. As I mentioned before, one will go to the race Winner and the other one will go to the slowest qualifier. When we have ironed out the details with the others I will announce those. - I understand your point, I considered NCRC's proposed Sponsorship program long and hard before I announced it last Fall. The idea of a Sponsor providing cash prizes for good performances is an ideal situation to say the least. But, in today's economy finding any Sponsor to step up with participation at any level is a bonus for us. If we had folks lined up to provide us with incentive based cash Sponsorship programs then we probably would not be having this conversation... but we don't, so we are. The cool thing is we have more Sponsors than we did last year. There will be more cash and gift certificate based programs, we are working on them. In fact, I had long conversations with an existing Sponsor yesterday morning and with a new Sponsor this morning. I'll make an announcement about all that very soon. Thanks for your comments... Just a reminder to everyone that tonight is the banquet for Outlaw Top Sportsman. It is going to be at Bono's Chophouse and Saloon in Decatur, TX. Bono's is on the north side of Decatur on Hwy 287 (right next door to Catfish O'harlies). There is NO ADMISSION FEE this year, however you are responsible for your own purchases at the restaurant. The wait staff will begin taking orders at 6pm and then Gilbert will take over shortly after that.

This is not the final Schedule. Those are the dates we can plan for as of today. There are a handful of discrepancies with mid April that I need to iron out. There are other tracks and other dates that I am working on as well. As you know I am looking at running some 15-18 races this Season. With that in mind I can move forward with those other negotiations now that I've got the core Schedule in place. I will spread the races out as best I can. I'll finalize the Schedule as soon as possible.

All races posted are points races until further notice.

Cindi asked me if I think I'll have enough cars to put on a good show to kick off the year at the March 18th race. She wants to set a good, strong and positive tone for the Season early on. I told her I have no doubt our class will be ready to go. Pick up the phone and let me know if you're in or out for this race would ya?

In addition to the Schedule... this is a good time to announce our newest Sponsor, Nitro Dave's Nitrous Outlet out of Waco. (www.nitrousoutlet.com). Dave will be in attendance at our Banquet next weekend in Decatur. And don't forget that Marty Chance at Neil Chance Racing Converters is committed to sponsoring us as well! I will be making a formal announcement regarding their respective partnerships with OTS as soon as those details are ironed out.

Also, I was recently made aware of a 2 day multiple class Index race that is slated for Memorial Day Weekend here in North Tx. If all the pieces fall into place it will be a very large 2 day race.. stay tuned, we're working on those details as well!

You boys up in Wichita Falls better knock the ice off your rigs and blow the cobwebs out those hot rods 'cause I hear there is some new blood comin'! From what I understand we have more than a few new guys that are going to come out gunning for ya! Not to mention I have participated in or been made aware of significant changes to a few contenders from last year! Knowing what I know today, it's gonna be one heckuva year for OTS! Oh... and what the heck is up with the ROG lately? Those guys sure have been quiet lately! Kinda makes ya wonder what they're up to...

Just wanted to give you guys an update on where we are with the Schedule. We now have 8 confirmed races with options another one or two at those 2 respective tracks. I am waiting to hear back from 2 local D'FW tracks. Once I have spoken to them I will pull the trigger on dates with the other tracks I have spoken to.

    - It actully looks like I will not be running this class after all as far as the schedule goes now. With the wichita races on friday thats to far for me to travel on a friday to race due to not getting off work till 5 and if Redline don't fix the shut down area I will not race there.         Yeah good point. We're not TOPMA though. OTS does not run through there at 195mph. I didn't haphazardly decide to run us there. Last season when we were sorting out Mike McGraws car we did it at RedLine. Mike lives 5 minutes from the gate. Granted, we ran the right lane, but we went bottom 4.70's lap after lap many different nights. Not to mention the class has ran there in the past seasons. Ever since Kelly first asked me to bring the class to RedLine last year and since my first announcement about running there this year, I have said that they will need to fix their racing surface before I'll bring the class back. I'm not just bumping my gums, it's a safety issue. Period. In my view, they have until the 3rd weekend in April to make that happen. I remain optimistic about Harry making that happen. - I received a phone call from Kelly Duncan this morning. He wanted to discuss the comments here regarding the Red Line facility itself. What I came away with is a very distinct understanding that he and Harry are committed to the Racers and the Fans. I was told very emphatically that the repairs to the track will be made before our first race in April. Harry confirmed it while I was on the phone. The date for the 2010 Season Banquet is set for February 19, 2011 at Bono's Chophouse and Saloon in Decatur, TX. This is the nicest place we could find in a central location. We will have a limited menu with something for everybody. The wait staff will start taking food orders at 6pm. More detail to come at a later date.

- There are at least 7 cars in the wf area, not to mention Satterfield in NM. Plus 3 from Oklahoma. That my friend is almost half of ALL the members. It doesn't matter where it is, some always have to driver further than others. Decatur is closer to DFW than Wichita anyway. Eddie, Paul, Stan, and Gilbert are all good with the decision to have the banquet there. Nobody is mad, the Butler Motorsports shop is very nice but it is a lot of work for Baldwin to get it all ready, for all the chairs and tables to be set up (and torn down), plus getting the event catered, etc.. This decision was made so there is more variety of food to choose from at a lower cost in a more central location. Thanks for the interest in this subject. I need to update the Driver Profiles on our Texasoutlawracing.com website. The profiles there currently are somewhat outdated and do not reflect who we are what we are doing. There are 6 cars posted there and I do not think one of them raced with us last year.

In the interest of putting our best foot forward as an organization of dedicated Racers, I would like to invite any and all Teams to provide me with information about your program. I need a recent photo of the car/truck Owner/Drivers name, location, Crew Chief, Car year and make, engine combination, transmission, and anything else you think is relevant to your Team's profile. I will compile that info as it comes in and get it posted as soon as possible.

Last Season we did not have Membership Cards. I intend on having those made up long before the first race.

Also, I have requested in the past that you guys get in touch with me so I can get a good idea who is going to be running with us this year. I have been contacted by more new people than I have been by current members. I need updated contact information on you guys so I can keep you updated with events related to the Class. I know that many of you are interested in racing with us, well help me help you! Please e-mail your contact and team info to gilbert@aceracingtrans.com.

I don't need your dues until the Season begins, so don't worry about that right now. We can handle that as late as the first race.

Stan and I are working on putting the Banquet together. We'll make an announcement about that as we have the details. We'll give ya'll plenty of time to plan for it.

Also, I think its a good idea for our teams to have Hero Cards. Many times last year I was approached by kids or parents who requested a photo of a car, or were asked questions about the given car. If we can provide the fans with that information in the form of a Hero Card then I believe it will only contribute to the growth of our Class. What do you guys think, give me some feed back on this one.

I'm also going to have two Banners made for OTS so that one or to of us can hang them on a trailers. Don't be surprised if ask you to hang one on your trailer at a particular race. If you are parked up front... I'll probably be asking you to help get our name out there.

If you or anyone you know is capable and willing to build and maintain a dedicated OTS website I would be interested in talking to that person. More than one member has shown an interest in this and I am willing to explore the idea.

I've seen a lot of talk about rumors and a lot of interest in the OTS Series, well... I need to know who you are. It's time to step up and let our fans and the tracks know that we are going to bring some cool hot rods to good tracks and put on a heckuva show. Get me that information and I'll get it up.

If you guys would like to see something that we are not currently doing then send that idea to me and I'll make sure it's addressed. We want to hear anyone and everyone's ideas.

I have a few other things I'm working on that I'll bring up at the appropriate time. It's all about bringing interest and recogniton to who we are and hat we are doing.

I know these results should have been completed some time ago, but I wanted to get it right and I've been quite busy. I apologize for not getting this up sooner, but after going over each and every round of Competition and Qualifying I am certain that the results are correctly tabulated. If you'll take the time to go back in the Archives here and look at last years' schedule announcements you would find that it was the first week of February that the first dates were announced. The full schedule was announced the last week of February in 2010. Rest assured you are not the only person who would like to have the schedule in place. I'll tell you what, I'm glad you're interested in the class this year... why don't you give me a call, I could use some help lining up Sponsors for the Banquet and the races this upcoming season. I have a list of about 15 Racers that need to be called, I was only able to talk in depth to some 12 racers last week about OTS. Welcome to the New Year everybody! I hope Santa brought ya'll the parts you wanted because you're gonna need 'em! I've been contacted by more than a few Racers who are stepping up to race with us this Season who have not in the past. And from what I can tell, the new cars are going to be strong competitors. I have been made aware of changes to several cars that ran with us last year that will enable them to be more competitive. It is my goal to bring some of the fastest and tightest side by side door slammer racing to the fans of North Texas. This off Season I have been working diligently with Racers and Tracks alike in order to do just that.

With regards to the Racing Schedule itself... I have spoken to the Owner/Managers of Texas Raceway, Red Line, Northstar, Wichita Raceway Park, Dallas Raceway and others as recently as this afternoon. Most of them have only just now began to actively look at their Schedules for 2011. Some tracks simply can not afford to pay our Purse, unfortunately some tracks' facilities are just not up to par for our cars, and others are trying to make sure we can bring a field of cars that will bring the fans that help pay their bills. Simply put, guys if we raced for free you would already have the schedule. But, it's not that simple.

As of this week I have 4 dates on the calendar. I am very encouraged by the interest the tracks have shown in running us this Season. I will release the dates once we have sorted out the entire schedule.

I very much do appreciate all of the interest you guys have in this Class. I appreciate the passion some of you guys bring to the table. But, let's do try to keep it positive. With regards to the talk of disbanding it... all I can say is that isn't going to happen. This is a very good class full of good people and nice race cars that fill a very big void in the North Texas / Southern Oklahoma Drag Racing scene.

I encourage any and all of you to make the time to give me a call if you have a question about anything regarding this class or you race car. I am a Dealer for ATI, Transmission Specialties and RPM Performance Racing Electronics among others. I bring more to the table than just transmissions. I would be happy to help you any way I can. Last night at the TOPMA Pro Mod $30,000.00 Shootout race held at Texas Raceway, several OTS teams were at the track and participated in the Chicago Style Race that was offered to Pro Mods that did not previously earn a spot in the Quick 8 Pro Mod race, Automatic Pro Mods and OTS teams.

Congratulations to Eddie Roach, Kent Birkes and Kenny Duke. These 3 OTS teams made the final 4 along with Jim Brinkerhoff. Unfortunately the race did not happen due to 2 nasty back to back oil downs late in the program.

- Hello Bill, thanks for getting into the conversation. I'm not sure we've met. Which team or car are you with? I've spoken to many of the current Racers and have not heard this opinion before. If you'll take a look at the current rules, which have not been amended, you'll find that everything you mentioned is required to run in the Class. We are fully aware that it is the Tracks responsibility to enforce Safety Rules. But, we feel that it is important that we put our best foot forward and do what we can to make sure that the cars we field are safe... mainly for the given opponent a car is lined up against. If you are aware of a specific Owner, Driver, or Team that is not willing to race with us because of the Safety Rules, please have them get in touch with me either here on the Board, by e-mail or a phone call. I spoke to 2 Grudge Racers last Friday night at Kennedale who are planning to run with us next year... when I brought up those specific rules they smiled and said no problem. - Yeah I know we won't get 100% compliance 100% of the time. That's the way it goes right? But, do look at the class rules... there aren't that many at all. I don't see where there ought to be a situation where any of us are very far apart on the safety thing. Furthermore, it was not an issue at all this season. I do not advocate letting someone field a car that is obviously unsafe. I do not advocate sending someone home who has driven several hours just because his seat belts are expired either. I have a 48 ft Vintage, 6" extra height, L shaped cabinets in the front with 8 foot of uppers going down the drivers side. The floor is black marble, fully factory inside finished, 110 plugs throughout, 2 outside 50 watt bucket lights, inside 110 lights and 12 V lights, generator door, 15K A/C with heat (new a year ago), Big foot (new a year ago), 50 amp service with 30ft life line, 7 new 16" tires with less than 2K on them (new a year ago) L shaped lowers, 8 foot uppers on drivers side, Diamond plate door and fold out flap, 6 ft dove tail.

This trailer was not used and storred inside for the first 4 years due to the previous owner being oversea's. that is why everything was bought new last year when I got it from him. Asking 13,900 for it, will sell with a 6500 watt Honda EBU generator for $14,500.

The ramp extension on the rear door is not included. The stock 18" on is included and will be on the trailer. If you want the full length Alumimium one it will be $500 more, this one was built by performax and it was $750 in the spring of this year.

2010 Drivers Meeting Recap -- Gilbert 817-851-2777, 17:35:42 11/02/10 Tue [6]
This past Saturday night we held our end of the season Drivers meeting at Catfish O'Harleys in Decatur, Texas. Several Drivers and Crew members were in attendance. Special thanks to all of those who were able to participate in shaping the class for the upcoming season. And thank you to the guys who could not make it but called me before hand to review the meeting agenda and ensure that they were heard.

We discussed several issues, but only a few solid decisions were made. Quite frankly, the current format works just fine so there aren't too many improvements that are needed to ensure a quality racing season for the Fans, the Tracks and of course the Teams that put on the show. We heard everything everyone had to say and will be considering those suggestions as we move forward.

First on the list was to squash any and all questions regarding the 4.70 Index format that has been ran since the inception of the class. Bottom line is that the Index will remain 4.70. So get those cars ready for next season!

Next we discussed Safety. This season we were somewhat relaxed with our inspections. Next year all vehicles will be required to meet NHRA/IHRA Top Sportsman safety rules. Basically, the car must certify to 7.50 and have a chassis tag. In addition, engine diapers are required on every car. If your vehicle is equipped with an NHRA/IHRA approved belly pan then that will be allowed instead of a diaper. This rule will be strictly enforced for everyone's safety and to prevent oil downs at the track. If you have any questions about any of the requirements for the Class, call me. I will talk to the local tracks in order to find their Certification Days next year and will make an announcement in plenty of time for everyone to get their cars certified should they need it.

Another issue we discussed was the need to get information to the racers and fans. A website would be a good way to get this done. If any of you can do this for us, please let me know.

It was decided to not change the payout for next year, and it was also decided that the "Jackpot" race we implemented a few times this year will become a permanent fixture of our class for the future. That means that all Racers who do not qualify for the main show will be placed into a "Jackpot" race at each event. This race will occur when 10 or more cars have paid the entry fee. All DNQ monies will be paid to the Winner of this race. We will encourage the tracks to participate with this purse as well. This gives the DNQ racers a chance to race and to get the car tuned up for the next event. We believe this will make for a better show. The tracks where we have done this were quite pleased with the results.

Outlaw Top Sportsman Meeting -- Stan Thomas, 09:14:03 10/18/10 Mon [1]
OTS is going to have a general discussion meeting October 30, 2010 at Catfish O'harlies in Decatur, TX. We will have a private room there to eat and talk. They have things to eat other than fish like steaks, chicken, salad bar, etc. This event will start at 6pm. If you are planning on running in OTS next year, we would love to have you there.

Note: This is NOT the banquet. We are still finalizing the details on that and will keep everyone posted here on the board.

- In a word... yes. Without question OTS, will be back next season. As a matter of fact several of us are working regularly behind the scenes to ensure a successful season of fast Heads Up Doorslammer racing for 2011. For example, as of last weekend I secured a commitment from a local track to provide us 6 dates on the calendar for next year... I was offered 12, but politely declined. That is in addition to a 4-5 race commitment already in place from another track. Once the schedule is finalized we will be releasing the track names and dates as we have not heard from all of the tracks we've spoken to. (NT) -- Gilbert, 20:55:29 10/13/10 Wed
