Subject: Depression Patch

Went to the Pdoc today and guess what -- there is actually something new in the world of depression treatment, an MAOI patch. I hadn't even heard of it.

Here's what Wikipedia says:

As of February 28, 2006, Selegiline has also been approved by the FDA to treat major depression using a transdermal patch (Emsam Patch). Selegiline is also used (at extremely high dosages relative to humans) in veterinary medicine to treat the symptoms of Cushing's disease and so-called "cognitive dysfunction" in dogs.

Great. Dog medicine.

I said, no thanks, not yet anyway. I guess I'm not sick enough. Plus, I'd have to explain the patch to people.

I don't know why I go to the Pdoc. Meds just make me feel worse. So what good is he going to be to me? Today I went because I needed a note saying he recommends the Omega 3 capsules I take so I can get the money back from my FSA. Also needed a refill of Ativan, which helps me manage my anxiety but doesn't do much for my cyclothymia.

I wonder why he hasn't put me on a mood stabilizer.

I get the feeling he'd give me any drug I asked him to.

Any legal drug I mean.

I got a scrip for Wellbutrin. I tried it about 8 years ago and didn't like it, but our biochemistry changes and who knows, maybe it will be my magic bullet this time. If I decide to fill the scrip.

Just rambling.

Liz
