In my opinion, stay away from MAOI's. They are very difficult to deal with, and there are huge side effects. There is a whole list of things you can't eat or drink because of the medication. It can mess with your blood pressure and in my opinion they do very little for depression. MAOI's are considered the last resort in treatment for depression. ECT isn't even considered a last resort. Say no to MAOI's. It will be bad situation for you.

Wellbutrin was only good for me in trying to quit smoking. I quit basically without even trying, but it did nothing for my depression. Then as soon as I stopped the med, I started smoking again.

Have you tried lamictal? Cymbalta? (that is a new anti-d with zoloft and zyprexa in one pill). Have you ever been on lithium? That is the best mood stabilizer even if you aren't bipolar. What about trazadone?

I know you have been throught the gammet of meds like I have, but I couldn't remember all that you have been on. Would a second opinion with another pdoc help? I can basically talk my pdoc into what I want just because he knows that i am a medical person, and have done the research on these meds. He will tell me no though.....when he feels it isn't good for me. Right now, I am on a regiment that really seems to be helping. I am going without therapy every week....getting over the therapist from hell, and trying to find a new therapist which isn't easy. I had to quit the christian counselor after one visit, I just had a bad feeling about it. Their clinic doesn't have help after hours...you have to call the crisis line after hours. He doesn't make phone calls to you because that strains the boundaries of the therapeutic relationship. That is horsepucky in my opinion. If someone is going to take on taking care of the mentally ill, they better damn well be available in an emergency. So I cancelled the next appointment and told the secretary that it wasn't going to work out.

But I am really ok.....for the first time in a long time.
How long it will last I don't know, but I am enjoying it while it is here.

I wish you luck in your med search. There has to be something out there that can help you.

Love, Mikki
