I believe that if the Titans had won the game, nothing would have been said about it. They were unhappy with their result and have found someone else to blame for their loss. They needed a diversion that would enable their obsessive fans to forget about how they lost the game, through their own fault, and have found Gavin Badger. John Cartwright does complain on a frequent basis and does't like to lose.
