I recall that $100k was tossed about in the media as the size of the remuneration package that Bill was on. You would need to ask him how accurate that figure was.

Superleague did start with video referees and had improved comms gear. ARL had in-goal officials at some games but eventually did get video referees at all games.

There were some rule changes in Superleague as well, some survived, some abandoned in the merger.

Basically, Superleague was interested in 1 grade of football, and let local districts run most of the show below that level.

Ian Smith was the Director of Referees for Superleague.

Who had the higher standard? Hard to say as both comps had a mix of team standards, with Superleague having many of the newer franchises.

My memory of the time is that the ARL guys stepped up to fill the void left by BH, and I think it was David "Charlie" Manson who did the top job, and did it very well.
